My Recent Interview on TD Ameritrade

What a week the markets just had! We knew things were going to be busy coming into the week with the much-anticipated Mid-Term elections on Tuesday and the monthly CPI reading on Thursday. Well, the Mid-Terms turned out to be a Red Trickle and the CPI report showed that inflation is on the decline. The question now is, what has changed? In short, not much. We still have the same challenges we did before last week’s data & election results.

As luck would have it, I had a last-minute change to my schedule, and I was invited to appear with Oliver Renick on the TD Ameritrade Network to discuss some of these points and what my thoughts on the markets are moving forward. You can view this interview here (please excuse me looking down, I was referring to notes that I had just taken from a market update call an hour before):

As I discussed in my interview, we have identified 5 Key Catalyst to Watch (Credit: Tom Essaye, 7’s Report) for the markets to continue a year-end and more sustainable rally which are in order of importance:

1.???Inflation – Must see a continued decline in forward inflation expectations, price stability in the Institute of Supply Management (ISM) Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) & continued declines in the next CPI report due out 12/13/22.

2.???Terminal Rate Expectations – Where the Fed will stop. Next Fed meeting 12/14/22.

3.???Economic Data – October ISM PMIs & November Jobs Report

4.???China Reopening – Does it continue and will they fade the Zero Covid policy?

5.???Russia/Ukraine War – Do we get a cease fire?

We are continuing to follow these events closely along with the technical trends that help us to determine the near-term direction of the markets. While we will certainly welcome upward moves like we saw last week, we still view this market with caution. There is no doubt progress has been made but there are still many things to be resolved.

I welcome any comments or questions. Thank you for your time and have a great week.

Regards,

Tim
