My Reading Journey: From a Library Loan to Raising Five Young Readers

My lifelong love affair with reading has roots that stretch back to my childhood, as I grew up in a home where books were not only abundant but cherished. My mother and father were both avid readers, and their passion for the written word was contagious. Watching them spend countless hours engrossed in books instilled in me an early appreciation for the power of literature to transport, teach, and inspire

.

One pivotal moment in my journey as a reader came when my older sister brought home a book from the local library and shared it with me. That single act solidified my love for reading and sparked a desire to one day pass on this passion to my own children.

Today, with five children of my own—some in university, some in high school, and my youngest, an eight-year-old boy, just beginning to explore the world of books—our shared love for reading remains a constant source of joy and connection.

From the moment my first child was born, I knew I wanted to lead by example, instilling in them the same curiosity and passion for learning that had been fostered in me. I've read in front of my children, engaged them in lively discussions about literature, and sought out new authors and genres with an open mind. By modeling these behaviors, I've helped foster a love for reading in my children and inspired them to develop their own reading habits.

As a family, we've made reading an integral part of our daily lives, gathering in cozy reading corners and making regular trips to libraries and bookstores. These shared experiences have not only brought us closer as a family but have also cultivated a deep appreciation for the written word.

The legacy of my parents' love for reading has been carried on through generations, shaping my life and the lives of my children. What began as a simple library loan has blossomed into a shared passion for reading that continues to enrich our lives in countless ways.

As a father, I am grateful for the opportunity to have shared my love of books with my children and proud of the readers they have become. Together, we continue on our reading journey, eager to explore new worlds, learn from the experiences of others, and discover the magic that lies within the pages of a good book—a journey that began with the simple act of a book shared between siblings and has since become a cherished family tradition.
