Good morning Sara!
Question from a subscriber: "My problem has been how to have the discipline to say "no" to those who are not in our niche (out of a heart to serve those who come across our path). Business is abundant, however I feel burnt out serving too many people that others could serve just as well."
I can not possibly say this more clearly.
Higher focus = higher value to the client
If you want to be the best possible financial advisor to your clients, you have to stay in your lane.
And the narrower the lane, the better.
Here is the process for honing that discipline.
?
Take these actions TODAY:
- When you feel tempted to work with someone who doesn't fit your niche, say these words out loud t yourself: "My goal is to become the #1 trusted advisor to medical device sales professionals. If that means I lose money or clients in the process, then so be it."
- Get an accountability partner that you can talk to when you feel tempted to accept non-niche clients. Tell the person not to let you do this.
- Have a list of 3-5 advisors at the ready that you can send non-niche prospects to.
- Have some words prepared so you don't feel like it's a big project to turn them down. Use the Two Sentence Rule.
“From our conversations I observed that you seem more of a Do-It-Yourself type of investor and we wouldn’t be the best fit.
Would you be open to my recommendations for a few advisor friends of mine whose businesses are specifically designed to accommodate do-it-yourself investors?â€
?
Like anything involving discipline, the more you exercise will power, the easier it gets. The first few times it may feel weird though.
Yeah?
