  • Video marketing has not been traditionally been leveraged until recent years. Coupled with the lowering of cost associated with production and distribution, the speed of delivery has greatly been increased through fibre optics and the LTE networks. We will see an exponential increase in leveraging the power of video in marketing and sales, communications, customer experience and lifestyle activities as video greatly enhances the power of engagement and connection.

AR and AI will take a centre-stage in our lives

? Although AR and AI are already exist in many ecosystem, but we are only touching the tip of the surface. The penetration will leap frog this year as we will see more and more applications and enhanced usuage of AR/AI-powered technologies in the industrial, personal and commercial spaces. Apple announced iPhone 8 and the iPhone X. Both devices incorporate a new chip that allows the phones to provide users with extraordinary augmented reality experiences. For example, it’s conceivable that Snapchat & instangram will soon support filters that allow users to take a selfie with a friend or celebrity projected via augmented reality.

New & important customer segment - Gen Z

?A recent study conducted by Goldman Sachs concluded that Generation Z was more valuable to most organizations than millennials. Today, the oldest Gen Zers are 22 years old. They are just beginning to enter the labor force, and will have increased buying power for some time. Their taste and preference are quite different therefore, there will be more focus on driving products and services to cater to the needs of this group of people. We will start to notice Brands will begin to recognize this, and will shift their social media strategies accordingly. You can expect great investment in platforms loved by Gen Zers like Snapchat and Instagram.

Brands leveraging MORE on Messaging platforms

?Over 2.7 billion people use messaging platforms globally, and yet brands are still primarily focused on connecting with consumers on pure social networks. This year, we can expect brands to invest more time and money in connecting with consumers on messaging platforms. We will start to see AI, voice assistants and more enhanced chatbots that will enable brands to offer personalized customer journey experience, such as shopping experiences on messaging platforms.

Great insights! Thanks for sharing , Francis. It seems AR has a huge potential to become a differentiator for many customer-centric journeys within the following 2-3 year, benefiting video marketing and vocal text messaging as well. What company will take a leading role in these developments? Google, Apple, Sony...?

I think AR has a way to go, but AI is already playing a very significant role in your digital life, underpinning what you see on almost every social media platform, and therefore shaping opinion.

Interesting points Francis Goh. I agree as well and as more disruptive technology companies emerge into the fray large multinationals are going to continue struggling to compete and adapt to the new way of doing business. All of this technology is creating an exponential leap factor we haven't seen in decades.

Francis Goh, sadly I think you are right on some of those predictions. I see Video increasing, but I also find it increasingly annoying personally. Much the same as brand lurking on messaging platforms. AI is something I see as being able to be more stealthily integrated into everyday life where it is useful and not noticeable.
