MY POSITIVE SPIN ON LOCKDOWN

Long walks in the park, plenty of fresh air, extra time with my family...

Like so many others, adjusting to living in lockdown has been very tough. It may be the extreme jump for my normal routine or being at home with children day and night, maybe the loss of a sense of purpose. Whatever the reason, I am happy to admit that I am glad to be back at my desk!

I have still been doing what I can from home – to try and make sure that Hamilton Munro runs as steadily as it can. I thought it would be beneficial for me to reflect on the past 10 weeks and highlight the positives that have come from it.

POSITIVE SPIN 1 – A HUGE DATA CLEANSE. Most of us know how good it feels to do a spring clean at home. How therapeutic to finally get rid of those stacks of old games from the cupboard that haven’t been played since 1993, to vacuum the cobwebs that stare at you every time you look in the corner of the bathroom. Our CRM wasn’t that bad – but being in lockdown has allowed us the time to get really straight and make sure that the information and contacts that we hold our database are now “clean”. We can therefore work more quickly and efficiently and take a really targeted approach to our future business development.

POSITIVE SPIN 2 – SLOWING DOWN. As a full time Mum and business owner, I tend to find myself rushing around. Sometimes, just out of habit! Feeling that I must always be on to the next thing, kicking myself for not having ticked off everything on my list by the end of the day, wishing I could have accomplished more or worked harder or done more with my daughter when I had the time… but “what time?” was always the question. My mind is still often on 10 things – BUT – being at home, taking more time on tasks because 24 hours in the day is a lot, realising that perhaps focusing on achieving just 2 or 3 quality things per day has helped me to feel calmer and more thorough, able appreciate small things, like a longer story with my daughter, an insightful client or candidate call, watering the garden or simply reading a non-work-related book!
