My Plan To Run for Public Office

?Hello, my name is Ethan Howick. I am an independent and hope to run for public office one day. Whether it is a city mayor or the president of the United States, I am here to make politicians great again. Being or wanting to hold a place as a leader in this country requires integrity, honesty, and hard work. Whether you identify as a democrat or a republican, I will be committed to work with you if you have those qualities.

???I am not a republican on all issues. Being a “loyal dem” or “loyal gop guy” may sound nice, but in fact you are not loyal to the American people. As a leader, your job is to work with the people of America as well as you can. I don’t see red or blue anything, I see qualities. Though my stances mainly lean right, I will be a fair public official on all stances.

???You must be saying, Ethan, this sounds like a stereotypical politician plan. And you are right, there is no reason to write a plan for office. A lot of the promises politicians make in these documents, either they fail to hold up to them or don’t even attempt to fulfill their promises. I generally don’t know how politicians live by that standard. I would feel extremely guilty.

???Anyway, enough of the I pronoun. Let’s talk about you, the reader. The amount of trust a public official gets to retain office is astronomical. Politicians have power, maybe too much. Local officials seem to have more power than state and federal officials. I believe in as much little government as possible. I believe we should listen to our founding fathers, the ones who got us here. To this great country.

???Thomas Jefferson once said, “The Government should be afraid of the people.” Sadly, we are in the case where that is the polar opposite. You shouldn’t be nervous about election results because it shouldn’t affect your life. The American people should believe a republican is not much different than a democrat. We will always have radicalism, no matter how we try to take it away.?

???Instead of focusing on the bad, the extreme world we live in, we should focus on the good. We live in the best country in the world, I am tired of people saying otherwise. Some people try to say otherwise, say we are in a terrible state as a nation. Nope. Nada. Zilch. I don’t want to hear how much better x country is than us.?

???I am not saying our country is perfect, I am saying it is the most perfect it can be. Trying to get the government to please everyone won’t work, complainers will always find something to complain about. As a country, we all have had to face some adversity this year. But that’s what makes this country amazing, Americans have done a great job overcoming the tough paths of 2020. Instead of complaining about the state we are in, let’s talk about the great recovery state we are in.

???Again, I am not saying to avoid all of the bad. I am saying over 90% media coverage is negative, that is way too much. What we see on TV, is not what we see with our own eyes. The media though, sadly will always do what they want. We, the people or government can’t control it. If the government controlled the media, things would be even worse than they are now. All I am asking for is more positivity CNN MSNBC FOX NEWS ABC CBS NBC PBS!!!

???Hatred is taught, most people are taught to hate everyone who doesn’t agree with you. The media promotes division. It is sad. My grandfather once said, “If you can control something, there is no worth getting upset about it because you can fix it.” This, the government can’t fix and shouldn’t try to. He also said this, “ If you can’t control something, there is no worth getting upset over it because you can’t fix it!”?

???No matter how much you try to change someone, it won’t work. Don’t pressure them if you don’t like them. Just don’t be around that person. I will give you my stance on major topics but don’t dwell on them too much. Dwell on my character.

HOWICK STANCE ON ISSUES FACED BY AMERICANS

???HEALTHCARE: I am for Medicaid and Medicare. Two government healthcare options that are extremely flawed. We have seen that when the government takes over healthcare, it doesn’t work. It is a mess in countries with universal healthcare. It includes, long waits to see medical professionals, less personalized care, budget caps where critical patients have to wait for the next fiscal budget to get care. (Canada) Medicare for all may give us all free healthcare but there is no question it will lower the quality of our health and care for free!

The ACA (AKA: Obamacare) is a complete disaster. Obama kept raising the poverty line right before Trump took office. (Raising your taxes) There are a couple good things about the ACA that Obama did. Protecting people from preexisting conditions, and staying on your parents insurance longer. I am all for that and Republicans are too. Being fined for not having health insurance though is absurd.

ECONOMY: I believe in a market economy. I am against increasing the minimum wage to anything more than $12 dollars.? But there needs to be a higher minimum wage in expensive cities like New York or Los Angeles, it would really help the poor in those areas get back on their feet. The economy should only be partially government regulated when we are in a recession. Other than that, the government will lower the value of the dollar. That means stimulus should only be when absolutely necessary.?

ABORTION:Abortion is a complicated issue for me because I am no women or fan of abortion. The process and idea of it is disturbing. Being against government interference though means the same on Abortion, it should be up to the woman, who I sympathize with having to make that kind of life changing choice.?

IMMIGRATION: Border security is something we need. We need a big enough wall to keep out illegal immigrants. It is not fair to the legal immigrants because the illegals take the entry level? jobs. Immigration should be celebrated, becoming a citizen of such a great country. But now it is a problem. Too many people can just walk in the country, a first world country. There should be a process to get in, increased security for the safety and fairness for the American people.?

Let me make this clear, we are a country made of immigrants. A country with hundreds of cultures and people who worked their way into here for a new opportunity. Immigrants are the backbone of this nation.?

GUNS: I believe each gun that is more powerful than any made after the constitution implemented the second amendment should be carefully looked at. This issue of mass shootings in schools, grocery stores, churches, malls, any normal commuting facility has to stop.?

Most of those people who carried out those monstrosities were younger, 18-25 year old males. And surprisingly, many people used assault weapons. There should be some kind of buy back for those guns and if that doesn’t work, an assault weapon band is intimate. Any basic gun, I can’t be against you, a mentally stable hard working American, having one for defense or collection.?

FOREIGN POLICY: This is arguably the most complicated issue and the most important issue for the future of this world. It’s as simple as why do we have to fight? Why can’t we all live in peace? All the terrorists and power corrupt leaders are there for you to thank. And this makes foreign policy harder on leaders who want peace.?

This is a type of issue that should be taken care of day by day. Talk to leaders carefully and don’t do anything to show you are weak. Don’t make deals with terrorists and don’t destroy countries. National trade is a necessity but try and make things in your own country to reduce inflation.?

CLIMATE CHANGE: The Paris Climate agreement, something former president Obama touted as a top accomplishment, didn’t little to help stop climate change. Climate change needs to be addressed to top polluting countries like China and India. Will we stand up to China? Ask our current weak administration.?

First let’s become MORE energy independent and focus on doing our best for the environment, then we question other countries. And I don’t mean buy an electric car. Focus on little issues like recycling, saving energy, water, littering too. We are in a warmer phase of the environment, 30 years ago people were saying there will be an ice age! Anyway the definition of climate change is that the weather varies from long periods of time.?

BOTTOM LINE: Well, there you have it, my official plan to plan to run for public office. I am not announcing my campaign yet, this is a mere introduction on my ideas and opinions. Let me know your thoughts!
