My Perspective on the Power of Digital Therapeutics

My Perspective on the Power of Digital Therapeutics

(This is not a sponsored post)

As someone who was diagnosed with ADHD at 42, I often think back to my childhood in the 1980s and 1990s

I used to gamify my day-to-day activities as I found everything in my youth incredibly boring.

I wish tools like VitalPlay’s Serenium existed back then.?

Growing up, I struggled with the constant battle of focusing, managing impulsivity, and completing some tasks felt like climbing a mountain.?

I did it all without understanding why my mind seemed wired differently.?

Why was I always able to pay attention to the hurtful stuff and completely miss when people were being nice to me?

As a result I was misunderstood by my classmates.

On top of that when I read a book I felt like the book was swirling around like it was placed on a conveyor belt.??

I tried to catch up with text and what was being said or else I would read the same line out loud two or three times all to the amusement of my classmates.?

At the time, there were no solutions, and teachers' approaches to helping me were very limited, often misunderstood, and rarely tailored to the real needs of children with ADHD.?

So, discovering “Selenium” as an adult has made me reflect on how far we’ve come and how this tool could change the game for today’s generation.

A Game That Goes Beyond Entertainment

The neuroscience behind Serenium immediately grabbed my attention.?

It’s more than just a game; it’s a thoughtfully crafted tool based on neuro-scientific principles to strengthen executive function—the same part of the brain that left me struggling for years.?

Unlike the passive distractions of the past, games like “Serenium” are designed to engage users in activities that actively:

  • Foster sustained attention over meaningful periods
  • Enhance cognitive flexibility through task-switching challenges
  • Boost working memory retention
  • Train impulse control in a fun and interactive way

Growing up, there was nothing like this.?

Therapy was talking to my teacher, who didn't understand boundaries or how to empathize with my situation, which felt fully disengaging.

There weren't any innovative ways to turn cognitive development into something enjoyable.?

But now, Serenium seamlessly incorporates these cognitive exercises into gameplay, making it a tool I wish had existed in my youth.

Why Therapeutic Gaming Resonates

One of the most intriguing aspects of VitalPlay’s approach is its focus on dopamine—a neurotransmitter that people with ADHD, like myself, often struggle to produce in sufficient amounts.?

In the 80s and 90s, no one talked about dopamine or its critical role in motivation and focus.?

Today, this game is designed to naturally trigger the release of dopamine, turning what could feel like a chore into an experience that keeps players engaged and motivated.?

If I’d had access to a tool like this as a child, therapy might not have felt like work but rather an adventure I could look forward to.

What also sets Serenium apart is its adaptive algorithm.

As someone who grew up constantly facing either boredom from tasks that were too easy or frustration from those that were too hard.

I appreciate the brilliance of a system that adjusts the challenge level in real-time.?

This balance helps maintain?

  • Attention
  • Build confidence
  • Make you more resilient

These qualities I longed for in my experiences as a child and as an Adult.

The Power of Scientific Validation

VitalPlay’s commitment to research and validation also stands out.?

They’re not making empty promises;?

They have completed clinical trials involving 50 children with ADHD, using EEG data to measure the game’s impact on cognitive function.?

When I think about how little understanding there was about ADHD when I was growing up, seeing a company invest in scientific evidence gives me hope for the future.?

It shows that Serenium isn’t just a passing trend—it's a research-based tool that can make a real difference.

During its development, Serenium even incorporated Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) technology to refine its algorithms, proving how committed VitalPlay is to innovation.?

While BCI isn’t part of the final consumer version, knowing that the game’s development was rooted in cutting-edge science reassures me that this product is designed for true impact.

Potential for Digital Therapeutics

I find the potential for digital therapeutics to support or enhance traditional ADHD treatments inspiring.?

I often imagine a world where doctors could prescribe gaming sessions alongside other forms of treatment, making cognitive development more accessible and engaging.?

This vision would have been transformative during my childhood, but knowing that today’s kids have access to tools like Serenium feels like a step toward a more inclusive, empowering future.

As an adult, seeing how my therapy can now be tailored, engaging, and even fun gives me hope that younger generations won’t have to struggle as I did.?

Tools like Selenium represent a shift from managing ADHD to harnessing and strengthening its unique qualities.
