My path to Goal Setting

Goal setting is like common sense. Known by all, used by few. Starting your day, or your year without a goal, is like running between the stumps, without knowing how much to score, and being clueless if you are winning or losing. If you do not know your destination well, how can if you even reach there!!
Lets look at some easy steps, which i follow, to attain my goals.
1) The first and foremost is to understand the importance of Goal setting. Remember, if you do not know your end point, you will never achieve anything. Imagine, if you are playing football, and there is not Goal post, will their be excitement to play the game? will you even play the game? No. right. So if you have a goal in life, the excitement to live and enjoy life becomes something else.
2) The next step is to review your previous year and how your life has been For that, you can read my previous post on the same.
3) Now, take a diary and start noting down your goals. I believe in starting with a 5 year goal and then coming down to 3 years and then 1 year. A larger perceptive will give you a higher goal and, life is not about just this year but a larger picture of what you want to become.
4) Break down your 1 year goal now to monthly and weekly goals. You can seggregate your goals into Finance, Career, Personal, Mental, Physical and relationship goals. We make this mistake of just thinking goal setting as your finance and career goals, but life in just not work, unless you balance your personal aspects as well.
5) Once your goal is noted, look at the goals and prioritize them according to your wants and needs. This is very important, as you should not spend important time in attaining goals of lesser impact.
6) Now, note down the action plan. Just knowing your goal is not enough, but the actual steps that need to be taken , along with timeline for each goal will actually help you achieve them. To do this, write down the steps, time needed and also the resources you will require.
7) The last point to remember is, to keep reviewing your goals from time to time. Do not get disappointed if you are not able to attain few of them. If the goal is tough, change your steps, not your goal.
