P.S . This article which I'm posting doesn't carry any sort of new management mantra. It is all about an ordinary lads daily experiences on the largest network in the country.
One of the world's largest railway networks have become a part of my life- Indian Railways. From my Wintechian days,I used to travel from my home town to karunagapally. After that I never thought I would literally spend 4 hrs daily in the "most exhilarating" public transport in the country.
It is exhilarating because , everyday its a new experience. Which is kinda something you might get addicted to.
For the last two years I have been more on trains rather than at my home. Come to think of it, I'm pretty much amazed that I actually pulled it off. Apart from the humongous work load you get from your B-school , you also need to manage your academics , participation in events etc..which intensifies an MBA's life. But I guess the daily travelling made me to find enjoyment in this chaotic schedule.
The destination might be the same everyday but each journey is different.
when you understand another human being you kinda realize the fact that you are actually realizing more about yourself. It's something I always believe in. Right when I joined my MBA course I knew that I had to be mentally and physically prepared to travel a lot for a number of reasons. Even when my mates made fun, criticized , sometimes even shouted at me to stop this hectic travelling. But the reality was that I had to do that because I didn't had any another option.
What my #Passenger journey gives me,
The greatest learning in your life happens when you meet new people.
My journey made me see an entire different dimension of life, You get to see a lot of people , hear their stories and practically get a chance to imbibe a lot knowledge from them. Some of the people I've met even travel from trivandrum to kottayam daily.!
Art of pure selling
You know Indian railways is the only "on the go" platform which kinda showcase pure selling. The mittahi walas , book sellers , peanut sellers , news paper sellers, Chai wala - at times they make it a bit chaotic,if you try to observe each seller, you'll find out that everyone is unique. The way they project the product , explaining the features is phenomenal. Any you gotta remember that they have to bloody good at it because else they wont be able to make it to the other day...!
Who wants newspapers ?
The best discussion platform is inside a passenger boggie - you would agree if you ever have traveled in one. You'll be practically bombarded with lot of information. And if its about a smoking hot news then you better be ready ! because it gonna be very tough ride back home. Apart from the noisy disagreement what you will end up with is are pieces of information about an issue in different dimensions. That is game changer you will be update about what is happening.
The comfy - study room
For the past two years my study room has 80-90 seats at least. You can wander around , may be get some wind on the face , listen to a song , chat along with a stranger. Its the best place to study. You and your thoughts - there will be no one to disturb you. Now a days I only study when i'm on a train , may be its the passenger effect..!
The best ride_ Side seat
If I don't mention this it wouldn't be complete. The best way to travel in a train is to get hold of that window seat. Seriously grab your seat once to get on a train, because everyone wants it - why ? answer is simple its the best way to travel on a train also it gives you a chance to witness the beauty along the way and helps you get down at the right station..!!
so when the next time you get on a train , don't fall asleep. Because you don't know what you are missing...!
