My Pareto Journey-moving stateside!
So as of a few weeks ago I took the plunge and moved stateside, and not just to anywhere, but to the big apple!
It’s a fresh challenge and a new culture for me to embrace, but luckily I won’t be in totally unfamiliar territory. Personally, I think my transition to the US could not have come at a more suitable time. I will soon be approaching my 10 year anniversary at Pareto, and what better way to celebrate than to move over to one of the most popular and influential cities in the world!?
Having worked my way up through the company, this is an exciting new opportunity for me. Not only will I be able to contribute to growing our training and recruitment services overseas, but I will be able to gain a new understanding of how businesses in the US operate, and how they can benefit from utilising the help of external companies to grow their business.
Looking back on my career so far, working in the sales field is not something I initially had in mind. I didn’t originally believe it could be a sustainable career for the long term, but most of all I never fully understood the connection between the sales and recruitment field, especially in terms of the similar set of skills required to excel in both specialisms.
Starting out as a 21 year old with no idea what I wanted to do was difficult, but before long I’d started to thrive within my Graduate Management role at Pareto. This enabled me to progress to an Account Manager position after just 5 months in the business. I continued to develop within this role, and discovered that I was actually enjoying all elements of a career in sales.
Before I’d even been here three years, I found myself receiving ‘Account Manager of the year’ in 2007-2008. Now, having worked hard to reach this level in my career, i’ve realised that expanding my skills in another country is the next logical challenge for me.
So whilst it’s going to be a totally new experience, I'm ready to join my colleagues in our quest to make a success of Pareto's latest office. What's more exciting for me though is the opportunity to expand my knowledge and network. This fresh challenge will really help me to see what i'm made of, and I may even be able to get a tan in the process!
If anybody has any experience, tips or advice about making a transition abroad, then I’d welcome any input!
