My Own Set of Doors to Narnia

My Own Set of Doors to Narnia

After many years of dreaming about it, A LOT of hard work and effort, and getting us into a very (financially) tight place, we were able to move to a bigger house, in the neighborhood we always wanted. Each of our sons was getting his own bedroom and I would only have to share my bathroom with my husband. I was on cloud nine (about the bathroom).

We knew the house was a fixer-upper.? It would be a lot of work and we would only be able to fix things over time, hiring help where and when it was absolutely necessary, leaving a lot to be done by ourselves––me giving the directions, my husband helping (and maybe my sons if they were in the mood), and Latte would contribute with his cuteness.?

I was SO excited! It was finally my home.?

We have more than 1001 stories to tell about the process of selling and buying a house at the same time. The overall experience was a rollercoaster, it wasn’t that much fun, and it was––needless to say––very stressful, but at some point, we managed to say the house was ours. Home sweet home.

Only, to my surprise, we arrived and the house was still full of furniture and the previous owner (or maybe seller?) was still there, in the house! It was disgustingly, disturbingly dirty and the tiny four-legged friends, more like habitats, had left us a? good-bye gift––pee everywhere––and you know, it’s not so easy to clean nor is the scent easily ignored.?

If you ever purchased a house you know you don’t get to see the property so many times before it is yours to focus on the details, so you have to concentrate on the big picture stuff like:

Is it going to fall apart???

Can I see myself living here?

Is it a good investment?

Can we afford it all??

You get the picture!

Somehow, someway, we did it! We had a new place that we would call HOME!?

And so the moving crew left and we continued to unpack, and unfortunately, clean, too.?

When I finally decided to go to the bathroom––my own bathroom––I saw my son, waving THROUGH THE GLASS DOOR.

I’m all about transparency, but this was a little too much. Don’t you think? So, the doors were the first thing to go. And they did.

But they were such pretty doors and the previous owners’ poor door choice wasn’t their fault or their problem. The problem here was they weren’t doing what they were intended to do. They didn’t have the conversion they were intended for.?

But I couldn’t let them go so easily––I appreciate pretty things ––so I gave those old doors a new purpose.?

Today, you can find the French glass doors in my backyard. They’re my Narnia doors. They keep me grounded while they remind me that in my life there is room to dream.

In marketing everything has a purpose, you can call it intention too; we also call it a conversion. Before we do anything we need to answer the question: What’s the conversion? And if you don’t have an answer, just don’t do it.

There is no cause without effect and there is no marketing action without conversion.

Oh, yeah… sh*t just got real.?

I’m as real as you can get. All my tips and tricks come from experience and I'm happy to pass them on to you, but you’ll have to find your own Narnia and create your own magic.?

See ya, Lara
