My Nike #SwooshLife Summer Internship Experience

3 Words to describe my experience: Story-telling, Challenging & Innovative

How did you hear about this internship?

I heard of this internship through the annual Harvey Mudd College Technical Career Fair hosted for all students within the Claremont Consortium, like myself last Fall. I kept in contact with the Nike University Relations Recruiter from the career fair through a month long of e-mail exchanges and phone call interviews with Hiring managers on digital/software engineering teams. In the end, I was both surprised and excited when I was made an offer to intern at Nike's Headquarters for this summer on one of their Android Mobile developer teams for the Nike+ App!

What was your first reaction to the campus?

I was in shock (in a good way) for the first time arriving on the beautiful Nike World Headquarters Campus within Oregon for orientation and getting to know my wonderful team of co-workers mentoring me along the way on my project outline. Everyone is very driven to deliver their projects for the team and maintains a healthy productive lifestyle within the department of Nike Digital!

What did you learn from this experience?

  • Network a lot through informational meetings across various departments.
  • How project' timelines are laid out within industry for our team to get the job done.
  • How to improve my hard skills by the constructive feedback given by my manger occasionally.

Any Nike Intern event highlights I loved?

  1. Nike CEO, Mark Parker spoke at our orientation in person!
  2. Watching the Timbers play.
  3. Whitewater Rafting!
  4. Participating in Intramural sports w/ other interns.

Any Benefits?

  • I got to attend Lunches & Career Development Workshops with VPs, Directors and employees throughout the company.
  • Nike covered both housing and travel! A lot of gifts!
  • An Intern Team of driven individuals with a passion to code now apart of my forever network of connections.

Last, but not least the 2017 Nike Digital Hackathon was a blast of fun!

We were given the opportunity to work with either AR or VR for our projects and implement it on a mobile (iOS or Android) platform of our choosing to present. I made a great amount of friends throughout this program and have been given wise mentors to build connections in relation to my felid of study throughout multiple departments of Nike WHQ! I want to thank the Nike University Relations, Nike HR Recruiter Lori, and Amber for helping I and 197 other interns to have the summer of our time! This experience helped me understand that engineering is really a passion of mine to carry on throughout my career path.

"It's like working within a well-funded, non-traditional tech start-up, where there's always room to innovate!"

Hi ma'am, I found your article of nike internship experiance very moving and inspiring. As a junior this year myself i applied for 2 programmes in the nike career internship section. I would love to ask some question because i am very curious and happen to grab every possible detail that might miss out. So, 1 can you tell me the process of nike interns in design team like if you have contact of persons that did their internship in design department or so 2. Do they appreciate amateurs in basketball or ang other sport and consider if a skill durung the interview process if asked Last 3. How many rounds or steps does the brand take after interview in order to accept you for the role. It would be a great help if you can help and clear some of these doubts. Thank you for your extremely helpful article again, i hope big success and experience in life for you
