My Next Play: Creating a safe, secure and trusted place for the world’s professionals

I’m excited to share that I've joined LinkedIn as Chief Information Security Officer to help further build and grow the foundations of trust with our members and customers.

Going into year 10 of CISO roles, I’ve seen a shift in how businesses approach security. It used to be that a CISO was a relatively isolated part of the organization—concerned with only the technical issues like firewalls and VPNs, but not as involved with day-to-day business matters. All that’s changed. The security team’s baseline mission today is to help a business grow and thrive, and to do that, it needs to be integrated fully with all internal stakeholders.

 For security teams to have a positive impact on the business, it’s key that issues like privacy and safety be viewed as company-wide initiatives. That’s part of the reason why I’m excited to join LinkedIn, where the very first layer of the “Engineering Hierarchy of Needs” is Site Up and Secure. Just in my first few weeks here, I’ve been so pleased to see that the topics of security and building the foundations of trust are top of mind for everyone – whether they are in engineering, sales or marketing.

In my new role, I’ll be thinking about how all the pieces of our security program are leveling up to our members and customers. It’s looking at both aspects: focusing on specific technology choices, but always with the long view of how those choices will impact our members and customers. 

I’m excited to dive in and work to ensure that people around the world have access to economic opportunity in a safe, private, and secure way.
