My Next Move and Passport's Next Chapter
Earlier today, Passport announced my next move as Passport's Board Chairman, and David Evans will become CEO. Keri Gohman will also join Passport's Board of Directors.
Over the past ten years, Passport has become an essential technology partner to communities across North America. We take our responsibility to those communities seriously, so we constantly evaluate whether we're structured to deliver for those communities. As we reviewed our position and structure over the past year, a few things have become clear:
- Both the parking industry and city mobility, as a whole, are at an inflection point. COVID has created permanent behavior shifts that will create new challenges for moving people efficiently through densely populated cities.
- Passport sits at the intersection of two fifty-year mega-trends: densification in urban areas and the digitization of transportation. The rise of micro-mobility and on-demand delivery of packages, food, and other services has presented new sources of demand for the same supply of curb space that is shrinking.
- Private sector innovation and public-sector regulation don't have to be oppositional forces; there's an opportunity for cities to work collaboratively with new mobility operators to create communities that are more livable, more equitable, and more efficient. That collaboration will be created through new, digital infrastructure for the era of software-defined mobility.
Given these factors, there will be an accelerated pace of change, technology innovation, and industry consolidation -- more change will happen in the next five years than we have seen over the past 50 years. These factors have created a unique moment of opportunity where I need to shift my focus toward the longer-term strategic mission at Passport. As a result, I'll be moving into a new role as the Chairman of the Board at Passport, and Dave Evans will be Passport's new CEO. I'm excited for Dave's leadership and stewardship of the Company, and we'll be working closely together in our new roles to shape and guide how Passport attacks the opportunities ahead of us.
I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead Passport for the last ten years. We could hardly have imagined what the path would look like when we founded the Company, and I can't adequately express how grateful I am to each of our teammates (past and present) and clients who have helped create such a special company. It has been an honor to serve you all as CEO, and I look forward to supporting the Company in my new role as we enter the next phase of our growth and evolution.
Please join me in congratulating David and Keri on their new roles.
