PET PARENTS/AUTHORS DRAW INSPIRATION FROM FAMILY DOG TO EMPOWER CHILDREN WITH CONFIDENCE AND COURAGE IN A NEW CHILDREN’S BOOK
NEW YORK, NY (October 30, 2018) -- No challenge or hurdle is too large for Margaux, the most resilient and happiest poodle you will ever meet. Her infectious smile has a magical and inspiring effect on others.
The new children’s book series, THE INCREDIBLE ADVENTURES OF THE AWESOME AND AMAZING MARGAUX debuts with “Waggy Tail One: YAY Margaux!” (Ingram; November 23, 2018). Co-authors Laura and Scott Jordan tell the story of Margaux the poodle, who becomes blind and deaf overnight after suffering from a rare illness. Despite her disabilities, Margaux faces every day with a smile. The husband and wife duo are launching the new book this fall to empower kids to always do their best and to do so with confidence and courage.
The heroine, Margaux, is based on Laura and Scott’s real-life poodle who became extremely ill when she was eight years old. The mysterious symptoms caused her veterinarians to question whether she would make it to her ninth birthday. She battled numerous auto-immune diseases for almost five years, living to be almost 14 years old. She was blind and deaf for the last two years of her illnesses.
Not only did she make it, Margaux thrived! Faced with challenges that would be the undoing of most people, Margaux met it all with her signature smile and can-do attitude.
For five years, Margaux overcame new challenges and debilitating illnesses and smiled the whole way. She ultimately navigated the world without sight or sound. She gave Laura, Scott, her poodle sisters and her social media followers hope and happiness.
The book unveils on November 23, on what would have been her 14th birthday. A portion of the proceeds of the book will benefit Mountain Humane (https://mountainhumane.org), a no-kill shelter in Idaho dedicated to preventing animal suffering and cruelty and provides safe animals for adoption.
“I’m 13 years old, and I’m blind and deaf. But don’t ever feel sad or sorry for me. I still have more fun than any-and-everybody,” Margaux says in the book.
Along the way, Margaux picked up a very loyal social media following (https://www.facebook.com/yaymargaux. Margaux’s fans shared her struggles and triumphs. Many checked in regularly to watch livestreams of Margaux’s daily life with her poodle sisters. These are just a few quotes from Margaux’s followers:
“Seeing an animal like that gives me the courage to try and take that first step again. I lost both of my legs but I’m not down anymore. Thank you beautiful.”
“In April of this year my husband and I were struck by a drunk driver and my husband was killed instantly and I was severely injured. I spent a month in the hospital after several surgeries to repair all the injuries as a result of the accident. Every time I felt I could not go on I would remember that Margaux did. She is a reminder that I can go on…in spite of! YAY MARGAUX!”
“Yay Margaux! I am currently fighting metastatic breast cancer. If Margaux could overcome so much for so long then so can I.”
“My mom was dying of cancer and I brought her to live with me, took care of her and held her hand until her last breath, all while dealing with a serious throat condition. Now you are wondering what this has to do with Margaux. Your videos of her somehow said to me if Margaux can do it so can I. Yay Margaux.”
The valuable lessons Margaux learned throughout her journey were also taught to those around her. Laura and Scott believe that anyone facing additional challenges can find inspiration, courage and confidence through Margaux’s uplifting stories. THE INCREDIBLE ADVENTURES OF THE AWESOME AND AMAZING MARGAUX are these stories and lessons.
One of the most important things Margaux shares in the book is that she can overcome the challenge of being blind and deaf. “It was scary at first. I had to learn to do everything differently. I worked really hard and I had to practice, practice, practice. But, guess what? I discovered that I CAN DO ANYTHING!” Laura and Scott want children to believe they too can do anything.
Laura and Scott started saying, “YAY Margaux!” and the expression caught on among her followers. Later in the Waggy Tails series, Margaux explains, “Everyone says, ‘YAY Margaux’ whenever I do something brave. I love hearing them say, ‘YAY Margaux,’ so I do a lot of very brave things.”
Laura and Scott are sharing Margaux’s can-do attitude with children and adults to empower them when facing adversity. Through brightly-colored pages and detailed illustrations, the five poodle sisters—Lucy, Chloe, Margaux, Susie and Rhonda—and their big brother, Wolfgang the Cat, share fun and encouraging tales to lift anyone’s spirits as we follow their adventures at the magical Poodle Resort & Spa.
