Every successful career starts with a bold first step

Each year, new job profiles emerge in our society as a result of the division of labor, creating niches for specialists like a finely branched network. While some find personal fulfillment in this, others may find it overwhelming. This is precisely what young people experience at the start of their careers. In a highly complex work environment, individuals often face pressure, well-intentioned advice, misinformation, and uncertainty. It is important to acknowledge the challenges and seek ways to navigate them effectively.

It is worth noting that every successful story has a beginning. Irrespective of the profession one chooses, it is essential to acquire practical experience, learn how to collaborate with others, and develop new skills. This is as true for a medical professional as it is for a software developer. And while opportunities for personal growth may arise unexpectedly, it is only possible to capitalize on them if one has prepared adequately.

Sitting back and doing nothing will work even less in the future than it does today because it is a dying worldview. The faster our environment and the way we live together change, the more agile we need to think and act. Curiosity, openness and creativity are the ingredients that make lifelong learning a successful story. And that's why I say again: no matter what career path you choose, it's much more important how you maintain and develop this foundation.

I have fond memories of the first seven years of my career, when I entered the IT world as a Linux administrator. New doors quickly opened and I was able to learn about applications, storage and networking. Today, I can look back on 31 years of professional activity and nine companies that have led me to my current position, where every day I get to encourage great people to follow their personal paths. But this truth also means that my journey has had its moments of hesitation, fear and self-doubt. Moments when I stood at a crossroads and didn't know where to go. Moments when I doubted that I was the right person for the job. For me, these moments are also part of my personal success story, because they showed me how to emerge stronger from crises.

One of the concerns that many people share is the possibility of not succeeding and experiencing failure. However, it has been my experience that life is about facing and overcoming that fear repeatedly. While success is important, it should not be the only factor in our decision-making process. Honesty with ourselves is equally crucial. In today's world, where filters and effects are used to create idealized success stories, being authentic can be a significant challenge. Nonetheless, those who are true to themselves need not fear failure because they have achieved something even more important: authenticity.

Great post Dinko Eror! Thank you for sharing your experiences, reservations & motivations so openly! Your story is bold & inspirational to anyone who is standing at the crossroads, facing a crisis or just believes in moving forward! From my point of view, the ability to show your human side, not hiding vulnerability, is one of the biggest success factors for an outstanding leader! Apart from that, I'm convinced failures are an excellent opportunity for learning & personal development. They can be humbling but help to improve our skills overtime. It is therefore good advice to overcome the fear of failure & despite possible concerns face new challenges if they bring us to a point where we want to be.
