My New Thing: In–Practice

I am excited to announce “In–Practice” – a new consultancy dedicated to scaling and sustaining small and medium-sized creative businesses and nonprofit organizations.?

Since closing Imprint Projects in January of this year, I have been quietly experimenting with different ways of working. I deepened my commitments to mentorship, returned to directly supporting artist and musician friends, and generally said yes to anyone seeking my advice.

In only a few months, I was able to dip into so many great projects: book and film festivals, a marionette theater, a global storytelling platform, production companies and marketing agencies, graphic/interior/web design studios, an artist-run exhibition space, and exciting startups navigating education, data, and AI.

People really valued my involvement, they told me so, and they came back for more.?

I became a consultant.

After many years building businesses, managing teams, and producing projects myself, it’s been really rewarding to simply share my experience and expertise. Nothing matches the excited flow of this collaboration among peers. And I am honored to help other purpose-driven leaders (re)articulate their personal and professional goals, align strategic priorities, and adopt plans for growth and community impact.?

In this role, I find it easy to be an enthusiastic listener and learner, I’m quick with feedback and advice, and I have quite a few hard-learned lessons to share. Often, I find opportunities to bring people together from across my network. Sometimes, clients let me jump into high-level strategy documents or help with some crux copywriting (which I love!).

For the first time in a long time, I am excited by newness and humbled by a steep learning curve. Even though I am guiding others, I’m still finding my way in an unfamiliar role. And thus far, I’m going it alone, without the layers of support staff I have relied on for so long…

In the face of all this evolution and exploration, I have received amazing affirmation and encouragement. Especially from those who let me experiment with them, and who inspired me in this new venture, including Nina Sers David Jacob Kramer Brittany Crockett Nu Goteh Stephanie Struck Kene Anoliefo Aramique Krauthamer Gareth Hornberger Julia Kaganskiy Emily Mast Roseli Ilano Reese Donohue Diego Marini Tihomir Liptak Ayni Raimondi Vienna Hannah Haehn Abbye Churchill Yehuda Duenyas Sarah Haberman Mary Fagot Jessica McCarthy Magali Charmot

This is my current path, but I’m not sure where it’s going yet.?Maybe this is my next career!? Maybe this is something I do on the side?!

I don’t have a logo or a website or social media… it’s still early days.?But I am now officially open for business!

Congrats Adam! I was a fan of Imprint (I referenced your work often) and I'm excited for the solo chapter.
