"Shokunin"
I had never heard this word before but thanks to Matt Norman's latest blog (link below) I think it may be my new favorite word.
I try hard not to drive others around me nuts by my inability to never settle but at the same time I am totally convinced that we can ALWAYS improve. Even if the actual result isn't much better then previously attained the pursuit of trying to outdo yourself makes you better.
Runners try to beat their previous times.
Wealth Advisors try to beat previous returns.
My 6 and 7 year old sons try to make it up the stairs faster than the previous five times they tried.
It makes me think of Earl Nightingale's classic definition of Success - "the progressive pursuit of a worthwhile goal or dream." It's not the accomplishment itself but rather the pursuit itself that makes one "successful."
Let's go out and live a Shokunin life today.
In true Robbins style, he took this in the 80s and presented it as an acronym he made up. CANI - Constant And Neverending Improvement. Shokunin is definitely cooler! ... And Tony has long since matured. :)
