MY NEW CITY
It has been a year already. This day,20 October 2019 last year, I left the comfort of my second home, Dubai, and made a change to enter the unknown, a calculated risk taken in pursuit of better education and stability for my children.
We (My Family) longed in melancholy, for what we left behind was not just a city, it was a part of ourselves, our lives intertwined with the place for past 15 years.
Of all the changes in life that I adapted to, this was the most painful one. 2020 brought along with it the worst pandemic the whole world was coping with, and for us, an additional layer of fear of living in a new country, the challenges of new immigrants, job losses everywhere, stories of struggles faced by other new immigrants, losing loved ones back home, watching their funerals online, frustration of not being able to be there for the ones suffering back home, I wanted to run back to my comfort zone.
But, looking back in my rule book, is only to derive lessons from, not to run back into. My rulebook allows only moving on…
So, here we are, one year on, derived hope from messages of support from my friends and colleagues I left behind ,old friends called more often to offer support, made some new friends, loved to be back with some old friends and college mates here, my ex colleagues became my new friends, my neighbours turned into advisors, made some new acquaintances on LinkedIn, got support from the local community here and found some new relatives too!
There is so much goodness around. There is HOPE.

The Quotes from Quran that I constantly relied on for strength:
“Verily, with every hardship comes ease”
“Indeed, what is to come will be better for you than what has gone by”
Life goes on…My New City somehow looks more beautiful this Summer than it did last year.

Helping builders and subcontractors identify what’s causing delays and costly reworks, grow their team’s knowledge of building codes and standards, and expand their capacity to take on larger, more profitable contracts.
4 年What a nice story to read Noor Shaik Moving to a new city is hard, but moving to another country is more challenging. It’s lovely to hear that you’ve received a great deal of support during this transition you and the family are experiencing.
