What motivated me to write our recent book “Redefining Innovation: Embracing The 80:80 Rule to Ignite Growth in the Biopharmaceutical Industry”?
Healthcare & life sciences industry in US is under siege today, and the traditional R&D-based growth engine is starting to stutter. Every day in the news you hear about another biopharmaceutical company restructuring and people losing their jobs.
There are conversations about industry “greed” and accusations on excessive pricing. However, no value is being placed on the tremendous investments being made in understanding the disease, nor is the cost of failures acknowledged.
Given these challenges, most large biopharma companies have started investing in some innovation efforts, where they can start putting together their years of know-how and strength to a good use. However, blinded by their historical success, we have seen companies create barriers that restrict new types of innovation, disenfranchising a well-meaning and talented workforce.
This book reflects our ambition to capture critical lessons learned through our experience in setting up innovation at our previous employer, combined with a broader examination of the state of the industry, which could shape the future growth engines that go beyond monetization of the traditional biopharmaceutical product.

5 年Love the concept of the 80-80 rule. Innovation requires some standard risk, calculated risk, and the fortitude to move forward even with a window of uncertainty.??
