My Monday Rant: Dear Diary...

Monday it is!

Dear diary... As I go for the 4th one, I should point out that this time around, unlike the first 3, I thought of the tittle before the content. It hasn't proved to be an easier path to be honest; in actual fact, it does feel very limiting, very restrictive. I am wondering how clear it is that so far, I am just writing about the thought process of what I am writing now - not much of a writing, would you say? Anyway, let me get to the writing, that I have already outlined the thought process of... Hmm, sorry! Too repetitive? I thought I should go all poetic on you! Judge for yourself... 10 out 10? I know what you're thinking, but unfortunately 15 is not allowed... ????

Dear diary... I would have you know that the original tittle to this particular piece was meant to be, "Excerpts From The Book I Will Never Write". I remembered, though, that I had somehow heard of that somewhere. A quick search on Google and I learnt that there's a book with the same title, by Nadia Starbinski;? I have added it to my reading list next. But, as the would be title says, these entries in here are all random and possibly have no connection at all. OR they could all just be connected somehow.

Dear diary... The previous week was a very strange one! I actually saw a Tottenham Hotspur fan in real life, not on TV. My eyes could not have been lying to me as I still remember vividly, he was wearing a white Tottenham Hotspur shirt, number 21, Kulusevski. He looked a lot like DJ Black Coffee, but I instantly knew it wasn't him - he couldn't have a great taste in music wearing that shirt! His choices were already questionable from a distance. Just... HOW??? Sorry pal, at least I know we don't know each other, so you are not gonna read this!

... As if that was not strange enough, somewhere in England, Lionel Messi won FIFA Men's Player Of The Year award for 2023. If I wasn't restricted by this tittle I would probably write more about how Haaland (who plays for some blue team somewhere in the same City as the great Manchester United) deserved it better. I would make the whole thing about this... and possibly change the tittle, but I gotta move on to another random one!

... I know, I seem to be coming back to you more often than you're probably used to; strange week, as I said. As I continue to learn to accept the things I can't change, I am reminded of the contrasts made between management and leadership. I often find that the bar is set a bit too high for leaders. According to modern literature, a leader who's having a bad day or has made a bad call on something, is a manager... and surprisingly, the corporate world is full of "manager" titles, the academia is full of research and books on management BUT no one wants to be called a manager! Hmmmm... quite a predicament, would you not agree, dear diary?

... I am back, and I am still hung up on the idea that we have to love one thing at the expense of another; like how we have managed to alienate management, now that we are head over heels with leadership. We've seen the same pattern in soccer (not club level, that is understandable), Formula 1, music, comedy... truly, a very disturbing trend, I should say. Would it be such a sin to accept that Verstappen is a great driver without detesting Hamilton? I think not - this is my opinion, and the point I'm trying to make here applies generally to all situations!

... I wanted to say I'm back, but I guess it's obvious that I am here! Not that you have to stand me, but, I mean... I have yet another one for you, and I suppose the shortest of them all. AFCON stands for Africa Cup Of Nations. Any other variations?? Let us just say, not correct. Do you think we should tell the European media and all their pundits? Maybe not... let's leave it at that!

... My last entry, for now, is a farewell to you, you've been an awesome sounding board! Having thrown all that at you, I know it is too much to ask that I go at it one last time, but please allow me this last one. "I used to think that people leave their jobs for more money..." - dearest diary, you know how the new narrative would end the sentence, and it is kind of trendy as well! As fate would have it, we have another one where one notion is dismissed in favour of the other! I, personally, find it hard to believe that nowadays people only leave their jobs because of their "managers". If you were able to complete the sentence, then you and I have been exposed to the same narrative. Make your judgement...

... Até promixa semana!
