My Mom as Mentor

At a certain age in life, the roles between mother and daughter begin to reverse. I have been spending more time in Connecticut helping my mother. As I work at the same kitchen table that I did my homework on for many years, I realized that my mom was my first mentor. My mother taught me some very basic lessons that have guided me throughout my career.
Although these principles sound basic, they are timeless and have shaped who I am today. Mentorship comes in many different forms and often starts with our closest loved ones.? Thank you, mom. ??
Beautifully said. And so true!

4 个月Value and identify with these “timeless” basic lessons you so nicely share, Bonnie. The roles between mother and this daughter have also reversed. Time spent with our Mothers and first mentors…Priceless! HBD to my mentor who turned 89 years wiser this past week and best to yours!

4 个月Thanks for this Bonnie! I am feeling at a very similar stage with my mom and this reminder is timely and precious. It can sometimes be so hard to be on the caring side of an aging parent that we risk losing site of the critically important role our mamas played in our lives, especially when we were young. I too have a mom who guided me so helpfully and patiently when I was in my teen and early adult years especially. A true mentor who instilled in me the same messages and values you list here. And now I am working on my own patience and sensitivity as a kind of mentor to her. Your mom sounds wonderful! And she is fortunate to have such a dedicated daughter as you!!
