My mission statement
Recently I was reading a business leadership book in which the author shared that his company requires all new team members to put together their personal mission statement.
Upon reading this I realized that while I try to live by certain standards and values, I have never written out a personal mission statement. Having a written mission statement allows you to be more intentional about making sure you are “living on mission” in your personal and professional life.
You can also share your mission statement with important people in your life (family, friends, teammates) and ask them to hold you accountable if they see that you are not living up to your standards.
I believe you should put your mission statement someplace where you can see it often (in your office, on your computer or phone) and you should review it often, checking on your progress and amending it as needed.
My mission in life is to glorify God in everything that I do, and each part of my mission statement comes from His Holy Word, the Bible (English Standard Version). I pray that these truths will also be helpful to you. Blessings!
1. “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” Deuteronomy 6:5
2. “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
3. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
4. “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” Proverbs 16:3
5. “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” Luke 6:31
6. “But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.” Acts 20:24
7. “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31
8. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17
9. “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24
10. “But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14
11. “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8

7 年Great job on your mission statement, Michael. Our church members worked together a few years ago to create our individual statements. We used a book by Laurie Beth Jones, The Path, to guide us in the process of creating a one sentence mission. I love your idea of adding the Scripture to it.
