My Massive Database

One question I am often asked, is how we can cover EVERY language?  It’s a good question. Since 1991 we have certainly translated into and out of a lot of languages.

Many translation companies boast of their extensive database of suppliers, at their fingertips, covering every language known to man.

For Atlas Translations, it’s more about quality of each supplier rather than jaw-dropping numbers on a list.

We have a customised database which we call Pedro. It was built for us, as we couldn’t find anything off the shelf that did exactly what we wanted it to do. On it we have records for 33120 individuals. That IS a big number.

However.

Of those,

4404 have been approved to work with us. *

I think this demonstrates just how fussy we are! We have a strict application process, and a number of people do not finish the application form. Each completed application form is reviewed by one of our Project Managers who will check over the CV and details of the supplier and raise any queries. At this point we will contact referees.

Assuming all this meets our ISO requirements and quality control procedures, we will then contact the supplier with the good news that they’ve been approved to join the Atlas team. We send over an information pack so they can have an idea of what to expect, who we are and how we work.

For us, this helps to us to work with a great team of suppliers, covering 312 languages.

* With no apologies to the 28716 who didn’t complete the application, or did not meet our standards!
