My Major featuring Sara R. Maltempi

Sara R. Maltempi, a 2024 National Merit $2500 Scholarship winner, studies human physiology at 美国波士顿大学 . She says, "My goal is to go to graduate school for prosthetics and orthotics so I can become a certified prosthetist and orthotist. I want to go into this field because I have two family members who suffered limb loss from traumatic injuries and now wear prostheses. I have seen how their limb loss has impacted their lives, and I want to be able to make life better for them and people like them." Sara has already interned with certified prosthetists and orthotists, further confirming her decision to enter this field. "Seeing the clinicians make medical devices work best for each individual and come up with creative solutions for every problem has made me so excited to hopefully do the same," she shares.

"I am really a self-motivated person," explains Sara. "I work as hard as I can because I want to do as well as I can. Becoming a National Merit Scholar means a lot to me because it is a very prestigious award that serves as a testament to my hard work. I spent countless hours studying in order to achieve this accomplishment, and I am glad it paid off. In addition, the scholarship means a lot to my family and me because it contributes to allowing me to pursue my interests in college with less financial worry."
