My Major featuring Jocelyn S. Bullock

Jocelyn Bullock , winner of a 2023 State Farm Companies Foundation Scholarship, is pursuing her degree in instrumental music education from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) . "Music has always been such an impactful, important part of my life, and I want to use that passion in my future career. Furthermore, I want to pass that passion to my students so that they can have the same love for music," Jocelyn says. "Sitting in my Introduction to Music Education class and listening to the conviction in my professor's voice as she teaches affirmed my desire to be a music educator. She has been teaching for many years but still has the same excitement and joy for her profession. I want that for myself, and I truly believe I will be able to achieve that through music education."

Determined to graduate college debt-free, Jocelyn excelled in high school, accruing a number of scholarships, including her corporate-sponsored award through NMSC. "I am so grateful that I won this award," Jocelyn expresses. "Many of the scholarships I initially applied for resulted in rejection letters and emails, which quickly became disheartening. When I found out I won this award, I was so glad to see that my efforts were paying off. College became less scary to me because I knew I would be supported by this organization. I am incredibly excited to network with students like me, and I am glad to be able to call myself an NMSC Scholar!"
