My Life's Best Work

Honestly out of all the careers I’ve had and positions I’ve held, I’m most proud and grateful for the opportunity to do volunteer work. There’s a sense of humility, gratification and honor in serving others without expecting anything in return.?Through my experiences as a volunteer and learning the needs of the community, I decided a while back to make a greater and long-term impact by establishing my own non-profit.?While I had to stop for obvious reasons during the height of COVID, my passion to give and support the homeless population never ended.?

When I think about it, many of the skills that I possess now stem from all the non-paid work I’ve done and currently doing. Interpersonal skills, team building, communications, leadership, organizing and planning, and many more.?When employers review your resume and as you’re applying for your next career move, I encourage you to reflect on the volunteer work you’ve done. Volunteering speaks volumes about your passion for humanity and the legacy you want to leave behind. If you haven’t had the time to volunteer yet, consider choosing an organization where you can make the most impact with the time and resources you do have. Choose somewhere that excites you and allows you to contribute to a greater good and purpose.

When I was younger, I wanted to join the Peace Corps. I always had this vision of helping to save the world. Any career path I decided on, I wanted to make a difference. I started my career in the healthcare industry and have worked in it for the last 20+ years. Whichever career path you choose, be sure it aligns with who you are, your passion, and values.

Here's a great article by the Mayo Clinic outlining some benefits of volunteering. Also, check out my profile. Perhaps you’ll come across a non-profit organization that you’re ready to support either with your time, monetary contributions or both!
