My life as VMware/Nutanix Consultant - August Update
Summer is over but it was yet again one to remember!
The first week in August started with various troubleshooting requests related to #VMware #vSphere environments that needed my attention. Issues with NTP, certificates and hardware sensors passed my desk on the first days.
The second week, I travelled to a customer in Maastricht to perform racking, stacking and cabling activities for their new #HCI (#Nutanix) environment: 11 blocks with 20 nodes in total. All highly specced with regards to CPU, RAM & SSD's thus very cool stuff to work with! Additionally a great opportunity to work together with my colleague Bob van Oudheusden who is a highly skilled system engineer at PQR.
The third week was the start of my vacation, which I spent in Lanzarote with my family. It was my first time on this island but I am confident that it will not be my last! The weather was great, delicious food accompanied with friendly locals and other tourists. During our stay we also paid a visit to the national park Timanfaya, which is a truly amazing experience in which you are surround by a Mars-like landscape. For those of you who are interested; we went to Playa Blanca in the south of the island.
Fortunately, the fourth week in August was still vacation time and I spent that one at home. As I am still an IT guy, I took this opportunity to do some work on my home server environment. I upgraded my home domain server from MS Windows Server 2008 R2 to 2012 R2... Yes, I know: long overdue! I must say that the in-place upgrade worked quite well. Additionally, I wiped my home lab server and started work on getting the hardware changed/upgraded before re-deploying Nutanix Community Edition (nested on VMware Workstation). I closed this week by visiting the Mysteryland festival in Hoofddorp, which was a great way to end my vacation together with my friends.
At the end of the month, I was fully recharged working on various tasks and projects. One worth mentioning, which actually started for me with a customer workshop on 3rd of September, was regarding another new HCI (Nutanix) environment in Friesland. This environment will consist out of a back-end (database) and front-end (VDI) cluster with a total of 30+ Nutanix nodes with VMware ESXi as choice of hypervisor.
Cool stuff. Back to work! :)
