My Legacy Speech
Hello!
Im Komal, also known as Koko at Imperial and this is my legacy speech. I want to start by giving some background about me, my childhood, my school life and an incident that shaped me. I come from Mumbai, the hustling financial capital of India. I was born to my parents as their first child and was always the one in command and even today some may say I dominate everyone at my home!?
Certain incidents in my life defined me into the person?I am today. Coming from an only girls school, my education was influenced by catholic nuns. I learnt a lot of household skills like sewing and cooking while being the guides and scouts patrol leader.?
As soon as I completed my high school and was ready to move to my junior college, a tragic incident defined our lives in my family. My dad met with an accident in 2009 and spent 5 years recovering from it in the hospital. My mom spent those years besides my dad while I took over mom’s role at home. These years and this incident changed my life and shaped me into the human today - a strong independent woman who understands the value of family and money.?
Since then I have been unstoppable. I did my graduation, Masters and worked for 4 years. I have been extremely lucky to be influenced and supported by the right people through my career - starting with my dad, my mom, my brother, my ex-boss from Airtel Payments Bank and my lovely friends.?
They all saw the fire in me and the urge to make something out of myself. They unknowingly or knowingly pushed me to achieve my dream to come to London and study at 英国帝国理工学院 . They believed in my vision for myself - to make something out of my life, to do things that impact the way we live our lives, to spread happiness.?
The way I was bought up and everything that happened since then with the Indian Asian up-bringing, I turned out to be extremely disciplined in life and a woman who wants control of her destiny. With every failure and every achievement I realised that I and only I shape my own destiny.?
I dared to dream to come to London and I did, I dared to dream to come to the top 10 universities in the world and I did. I dared to get a job in this really bad economy in the UK and I got one!
All of this was only possible because of my commitment and support of the happy faces behind me who don’t envy me but rather see my win as their win and are proud of me. While I was always strong headed, coming to Imperial and this past one year at the university strengthened my belief in myself. I was already self aware but during the program I become highly self aware of myself and my surroundings. The Imperial College Business School helped me turn my strengths into my super strengths and helped me work on my weaknesses and accept them with pride.
It made me feel good about being an outsider in this white country but also gave me the confidence to dare to dream to rule it one day. I am convinced that the MBA is a stepping stone to my decade old dream of being a CEO but it also is the means to be a responsible one that does good for the world and for herself.
I want to be the woman that inspires other women to do something good, something big, something worthwhile with their life and not be bound by what society thinks of us.?
I am Koko, an MBA from 英国帝国理工学院 with a vision to make something out of her life!
