MY LEARNING ON LEARNING AGILITY

My 6 Year old till now has being used to solving math problem of

2+5 = ?, 5-3 = ?, and so on,

recently her teacher twisted the equation, and here come my Lesson on LEARNING AGILITY.

The task which teacher asked now was below,

2+? = 7, 5 - ? = 2

and suddenly she was perplexed, used to a certain way of working, she found this undaunting, and approached me to help.

the Accountant in me, said this is easy simply apply the linear equation principle, throwing some X and Y to the problem, to make it look more glorified.

Thus I said just assume the blank to be “X” and then make sure that X goes to the other side alone and the number which moves sides also reverses + / - signs respectively, In all this I forgot I am not teaching to a 8th grade student but a 6 year old :).

As expected She got more confused and a bit furious by now, and then come what I call as LEARNING AGILITY, when my wife said “Beta what ever it be, just Subtract the smaller number from the larger number” and EUREKA.

Now, She could fill the answers quickly ..

2+? = 7, was simple 7-2 = 5,

5 - ? =2 was 5-2 = 3.

I was surprised and could really see, how she is trying to embed LEARNING AGILITY, leveraging our past experience in an applied manner to future unknown situations..

My wife nudged me saying “Now I understand why Gross margin calculations are tough” :) :)

So much to reflect on Simplicity driving Agility..
