My Leadership Philosophy is about Wild Horses
Those that know me closely have heard this theory from me.? I learned long ago a staffing strategy that has helped me greatly over my 37 years in Corporate America.? So… It goes like this….
’Always fill your stable with Wild Horses.? You will get kicked, some will get away and you will never Break them all.’
What this means is you as a leader must create a culture that allows people to challenge you.? You must give them the freedom to speak up and voice their thoughts on any given topic. By creating a safe environment, I have seen many times that what I as a leader thought was a direction or decision, was proven to me to be wrong.? It is this freedom to speak up that makes a high performing teams so successful.? ?I even had an HR Partner who attend a staffing meeting, call me after and asked me why I let my team dis-respect me. I corrected them and told them that creating a safe space for teams to push back gets you to a better decision.
You should never be a dominating leader or the belief that you are smartest person in the room. This is the fastest way to failure as a leader.

Having been in that stable, I appreciated you creating a brave space. It was OK to share any idea, knowing the best one would work its way to the top.
This is a great strategy and philosophy. You can't walk into every day with a fixed mindset as a leader because people will resent you when you dominate decisions and bring an air of superiority.
