My Leadership and Management Style

During the past year having analyzed several leadership styles, I would have to state that the leadership style that closely fits mines is Charismatic Leadership. I must admit that often, at times, I also have a little democratic management style, because I value input to make any improvements from my team. However, my main leadership style is charismatic leadership, which allows me to be motivational, and help others as I lead. Some of the strengths of having charismatic leadership are the following:
- Higher productivity-charismatic leaders are exceptionally skilled at gaining the trust and respect of those they lead.
- Leader creation-charismatic leaders have an infectious personality that employees can adapt to and become leaders eventually.
- Increased employee loyalty-Charismatic leaders are masters at motivating and inspiring employees. As a result, leaders can encourage and increase employee loyalty and commitment.
- Establish a learning culture-Some of the major qualities of charisma are effective communication and improvement.
- A move toward innovation-Charismatic leaders is driven to change and innovation. These leaders look for opportunities to better the organizational processes.

Hence, the weaknesses of using charismatic leadership are the following:
- Lack of clarity- If the leader has delivered more successes than failures, they will eventually rest on their charismatic abilities, and forget to employ tactics that are necessary for success.
- Wrong Focus- Charismatic leadership can become more about the personality, and belief system of the individual. Their power to influence others can drive them to become arrogant, elude both humility, and compassion.
- The creation of “yes” men- The personality of charismatic leaders can turn admirers into followers and create yes men.
- The company suffers if they leave- These leaders may often be the backbone of a company, and if they leave, would leave a hole that may not be able to be filled.

Therefore, my management style would be democratic style, which I really encourage, and like the two heads, are better than one scenario. Some of the strengths of this management style are the following: Democratic managers are consultative, participative, and collaborative. This management style encourages idea sharing and regular employee participation. The strengths of this management style help the employees feel valued and heard. It encourages them to share their innovative ideas and solve their own problems. The weaknesses are that it can take some time, and you can seek out this style, and it would not benefit fast decision making. Employees can get frustrated if they feel like their ideas are not being considered, and if there is favoritism using this management style. (Purcell, 2019). These are some of the ways that I can strengthen my management and leadership styles:
1) Ask my followers for feedback regarding my leadership and management style.
2) Reevaluate myself, and then make improvements
3) Recognize my strengths and my weaknesses
4) Redesign my job
5) See the bigger picture
