My leadership lessons for decision making
I love leadership so I take my time to read about great leaders and their acts of leadership. I have come to realise that the act of decision making is one important thing that defines leadership at every level of leadership. Whether you are leading a big or small organisation, leading a group of people, etc decision making will define the quality of the leader in you.
I have over the years noticed that I make better decision when I follow these 6 steps:
1. Decision making requires information. If you do not have adequate quality information, your decision can never address the main issue.
2. Have an open mind. It helps in making quality decision.
3.Never rush in making a decision because others have made their decisions.
4. Look at different alternatives and select the one that best suits the situation.
5. Do not expect everyone to like or agree with you but if you have the opportunity to explain to key stakeholders the factors you considered in making that decision explain. Some decisions only make sense to other people after years.
6. As much as possible reduce the elements of emotion and pride when you are confronted with a decision to make.
