My latest adventure: spreading the good word #CollaborativeLearning

My latest adventure: spreading the good word #CollaborativeLearning

If you've only got 90 seconds to spare, you can find our new "Experience Learning Together" campaign on ProductHunt including a new video, new visual identity & an intrd

This summer I joined 360Learning because I believed we were onto something big, and I’d like to tell you why, how & what. For context, earlier this year we raised our Series B round and we’ve been putting learners back at the center of learning at a pace of 1 million courses completed per month. We’ve grown up to nearly 200 employees across New York, London & Paris. AdTech unicorn Criteo trains their sales teams on the same platform that international utilities company EDF uses to certify contractors before they are authorized to go on-site to nuclear power plants. That’s because 360Learning spent years perfecting the mechanics that facilitate learning in the workplace, which put us in the perfect position to see that learning is fundamentally changing in the workplace.

My first big mission, and the reason I waited so long to reveal what I’ve been working on, has been to put 360Learning’s mission into words. Much of the legwork had already been done before my arrival; 360Learning lobbied for a learner experience that connects the dots between learning & business growth - we’re already a recognized leader in the learning experience space by analysts like Gartner’s Jeff Freyermuth and Josh Bersin

What we’ve seen by working with hypergrowth technology innovators & established enterprises is that their problems are fundamentally the same: keeping up with the pace of business in a knowledge economy. Companies struggle to hire & retain top talent with specialized skills in emerging fields, and they struggle to share the knowledge of their top performers with the rest of the team.

Most companies are still stuck trying to translate outdated notions of student-teacher education into a corporate training program; however, just as pioneers like 42 & Lambda School spearheaded peer learning programs, so thriving companies have begun building their own bottom-up learning initiatives.

At SaaS unicorn Algolia, leadership encouraged peer coding & Algolia Academy, where different engineers present their learnings on a weekly basis, helped the engineering team work smarter with greater context into technical challenges & solutions. While at MadKudu, I came across all-stars like Outreach’s Sam Nelson who not only coaches his SDR team but also takes the time to share his insights on LinkedIn.

At 360Learning, we’ve coined this phenomenon Collaborative Learning, a radically different approach to driving business growth through learning initiatives. Rather than dedicated training departments building static courses that lack the context of the problems teams are trying to solve today, Collaborative Learning is a peer learning model where any team members can request or create minimum viable courses in a matter of minutes and iterated on over time by anyone through comments, suggestions & behavioral data. Generalist trainers are replaced by coaches - team leaders, subject-matter experts & learning specialists - who facilitate peer learning by organizing courses into personalized paths which align employee aspiration with company expectations.

You can read more about the world’s first collaborative learning platform on our website (which got a fresh coat of paint), and you can check out our latest campaign - “Experience Learning Together” - on ProductHunt, where we’re sharing 360Learning for the first time this week.

Learning has always been a driver for my professional development, and I’m excited to evangelize Collaborative Learning as a means of facilitating growth for employees & employers. Expect to hear more from me on LinkedIn about this on an ongoing basis, including:

  • How we baked collaborative learning into Convexity, our culture framework that uses learning to drive exponential impact.
  • Shining a light on “people enablers” in top-performing teams about how they coach their team and enable success.
  • Data from millions of courses on what makes a career path, onboarding program, or course impactful.
