My Language Day Experience
Kaabo, Emi ni Emmanuel lati Nigeria, inu mi dun lati pade r? (Welcome, I’m Emmanuel from Nigeria, and I’m happy to meet you. ?The language day, jointly organized by members of OneWorld and Enlance at the Jacobs Poland Office, left many great moments. The uniqueness and richness of the cultural differences on display during the event made the occasion lively. The participants were taken through many customs, giving them a feel of the different cultures on display. The event's highlight was the rich culture of my beloved country, Nigeria. It was indeed a unique and unforgettable moment.
The food was one of the most spectacular characteristics of the day. Several meals from different nations were on full display; from spicy and savoury to sweet and delicate, the organ of taste of the attendees landed in various countries without purchasing a single plane ticket. The food on each table conveyed messages that transcend regions, cultures, and historical backgrounds. ?Like my Polish family will say, ''There is no Polish gathering without Pierogi’’. In the same way, there is no party without the famous and daring taste of Nigerian jollof rice served with chicken and beef. This meal shows the distinctiveness of the Nigerian cuisine.
The traditional attires were remarkable, filling the event with lively colours and elaborate patterns. The diverse textures, fabrics, and patterns indicate the unique qualities of internationals in our organization, Jacobs. I adorn my beautifully embellished lace fabric. The traditional sokoto and buba (trousers and shirt) were accompanied by a green cap with a touch of gold, displaying elegance and a sense of cultural greatness. The dress is an excellent expression of my identity, deeply embedded in my origin.
In addition, the display of various flags in the venue generally represented a harmonious blend of diversity and unity within our organization. The hall was charged as if the whole world had converged in a single location, each flag expressing the heritage, pride, struggle and prosperity of her people. As a proud and patriotic Nigerian, the green, white green of my fatherland was on full display during the event. This reminds me of the rich and ever-fertile land of my great nation.
Moved by the universal language of cuisine, fashion, national pride and love, the entire experience left me feeling unique, enlightened and connected to cultures from around the globe. It also served as a reminder of the importance of peace and unity. As you read this piece, please take a moment to pray for peace for your country and the nations of the world. Thank you so much (Mo dupe lowo yin lopolopo) (Bardzo dzi?kuj?)
