My Key Learnings on Self Leadership

My Key Learnings on Self Leadership

They say a journey of a thousand miles starts with one step. This year, I made a conscious decision to focus on my personal development and promised myself to take up trainings and opportunities that would elevate me to the next level and better still feel more value at the end of this year. One of my focus areas this year was SELF LEADERSHIP.

The concept on Self Leadership sounds easy when said but taking a deeper look into it has revealed more and also challenged me to have a clearer view of myself now and where I want to be. “Once you discover self, that’s the true journey of self-greatness.” A constant reminder by a great coach and mentor, Pauline Kiraithe (founder, Talent Gurus 254). The amazing, well curated self-leadership program, ASCEND by Talent Gurus 254, definitely gives one a wake up call and indeed is transformational.

Self-Leadership is the 1st level of leadership, you have to lead self before you can lead others. Finding your purpose or rather your reason for being is core where you take responsibility, consciously develop oneself and make things happen in whichever space you are in. You alone can decide how to interact with the world and celebrate trying. Change is uncomfortable but sometimes you have to identify the elephant in your own path to growth and figure out how to deal with it. Asking critical questions on where you are now, where you want to be and how to get there are key to pushing you to take action.

My key learnings so far in this journey of Self Leadership are as follows:

1.     Self – Acceptance

  • Accept who you are and learn to be okay with it.

2.     Self – Awareness:

  • Know your values, personality, passion, experience, talents and intentions.

3.     Self – Belief:

  •  Mindset is everything. Have the belief that you can handle what comes your way.

4.     Self – Confidence:

  • Master your abilities and strengths and do not be afraid to maximize on the same.

5.     Self-Development:

  • Conscious effort to develop skills and knowledge.

6.     Self-Motivation:

  • Be your own cheerleader.

7.     Self-Talk:

  • Have positive self-talk.

Clarity of self matters. Find your genius and explore it. Mindset starts with the end in mind.

“Always strive be authentic, be your best self, stand out and leave a mark in everything you do.” – William Arruda
