Received a lot of messages lately wanted to hear my story and I am so humbled with your comments and wishes from my LI and FB profile.
Let me take you through this. Rodeo is into Transit Advertising startup where we monetize vehicles by ferrying advertisements. The best of all, none of these vehicles belong to us. It is completely crowdsourced. So we do not have any fixed cost and that is a big plus and our cost is merely on overheads and COGS.
Started small, we initially executed with Digital Screens inside this ride-sharing cars but didn't get much traction from brands. Quickly, we pivoted to exterior. Why? Uber in US makes 98M trips per month. Grab most likely makes 5M - 10M trips per month. We saw a huge potential in this "missed opportunity".
We started to convert these cars to ferry exterior advertisements, onboarded few clients to do POC. But of course during this journey, we improvised our business model, pricing strategy and go-to-market strategy.
Thereafter, we just keep scaling the business and grew the start up organically. Now we have onboarded more than 5,000 cars, 20K buses, 8,000 taxis, 1,000 bikes, lorries and van. Executed more than 100 campaigns with 50 clients. Clocked almost RM6M Total Revenue till today (3 1/2 years).
We are profitable, growing and scaling to other countries as well.
Just piece of advice, use what ever funds that you have wisely because like me, I don't have a silver spoon in my mouth from the beginning. My Dad is just an ordinary civil contractor. Therefore, I do not have my family to back me up financially but they are my backbone and my antidote. I started with RM10K paid up capital using own savings.
Lately, I approached few VC's. They didn't see my start up is ready and not scalable. I took it constructively and working on those hot buttons. Yes, working on launching Rodeo in India. But we do have few retail investors onboarded and one of them is Head of Investment from local bank, CEO from Malaysia leading online portal who saw our potential buy collaborating with his digital media.
But the traction and growth which reflects on the books will not lie and can't just hook up from the sky right? Our YoY we have 60% growth. Yes this year we already have contracts valued RM1.7M to date.
I am a hustler, I will keep going and will go harder.
