My Journey to Self-Love ??

My Journey to Self-Love ??

World Kindness Day is a great reminder to spread a little more kindness around, but it really begins at home—with the most important person in the room: YOU!

It’s easy to think kindness means being nice to others first, but the truth is, it starts with how we treat ourselves. When we give ourselves the same care, patience, and understanding we offer to others, it sets the tone for everything we do.

That energy ripples out, affecting our relationships, our work, our lifestyle, and even the way we show up in the world. So today, let’s make kindness a habit that begins within, knowing that when we’re kind to ourselves, we’re creating a kinder world for everyone around us.

Here are a few things that have helped me along the way—maybe they’ll spark some ideas for you, too.

Get to Know Yourself ??

Self-awareness has been such a big part of my ongoing personal growth. Be it through therapy discussions, reading, workshops, and those real, deep stimulating conversations with friends, family, and coworkers. All this have helped me get a better sense of what truly matters to me, who I really am.

Lean into that curiosity about yourself—ask "why" whenever something stirs you up.

Why does this bother me? How could I react differently? What can I do to become the best version of me? Teach yourself as you go and make sure you notice the patterns in your life and learn from your experiences.

Take Time to Reflect ??

Reflection doesn’t have to be a long, drawn-out process. Sometimes, just taking a few quiet moments to pause and think can make all the difference. It’s about checking in with yourself—looking at what’s going well, what’s not, and what needs tweaking.

These moments give you clarity and help you course-correct when needed. Plus, reflecting regularly helps you build resilience by teaching you how to handle bumps in the road. It’s like having a mini conversation with yourself, helping you grow and make better decisions for your future.

Find the Little Things to Appreciate ??

Gratitude is more than just a feel-good phrase. It’s about truly appreciating the people, health, and qualities we have, not just the materialistic “stuff.” Real gratitude grows from seeing our inner gifts and using them to keep moving forward and shine through.

It’s amazing how powerful a small shift in perspective can be. Even on rough days, taking a moment to notice something good—a warm conversation, a small success, or just a breath of fresh air—can make a difference. These small moments remind us there’s always something worth appreciating, no matter what’s happening around us.

Avoid Energy Vampires ????♀?

It’s important to protect yourself by staying away from people who drain you. Energy vampires are those who constantly complain and nag - about themselves or about others, always seeing life through a negative lens, and never take action to improve their situation. They’ll keep you stuck in their negativity if you let them.

Instead, focus on surrounding yourself with people who energize you, inspire you, and encourage your growth. Protecting your peace means distancing yourself from those who only leave you feeling exhausted and stuck. Be careful!

Live in the Moment ?

For a long long time of my life, I was just going through the motions, checking off tasks and zoning out - basically running on auto-pilot, I was once called a "zombie" and It really didn't sit well with me. And since then, I’ve started making a conscious effort to really be present.

Whether it’s taking a minute to truly enjoy the flavors of my food or putting my phone down to truly connect with those around me. Those small moments make life feel fuller.

It’s like pressing pause and soaking in everything around me—suddenly, everything started feeling a little more meaningful. It’s amazing how much we miss when we’re not paying attention, but when you do, even the little things become memorable.

Do Things That Bring You Joy ??

Hobbies aren’t just a way to pass the time—they’re like little sparks that light you up from the inside. Whether it’s journaling, painting, hiking, cooking, dancing, or anything else that makes you forget the world for a while, those moments of pure joy are essential. They remind you of what makes you?"you", and when you give yourself permission to enjoy them, that energy flows outwards.

You’ll notice you start carrying a little more light with you, and the people around you will feel it too. So go ahead, dive into what makes your heart happy—it’s not just for you, it’s a gift for everyone you share it with.

Give Back with Heart ????

Giving doesn’t always mean writing a check or donating time at a charity event. Sometimes, the smallest gestures make the biggest impact. Whether it’s offering a listening ear, sharing advice, or simply showing up for someone in need, giving with intention is what truly matters. It’s about making people feel seen and heard, even if it’s just in a quick conversation.

These little acts of kindness fill your life with meaning and remind us that giving is about connection, not just a transaction. When you give from the heart, you’re not only helping others—you’re nourishing your own soul too.

Celebrate the Small Wins ??

It’s easy to brush off the little wins, but they’re the building blocks of bigger achievements. Whether it’s getting out of your bed, getting through a tough day at work, making progress on a personal goal, or simply showing up for yourself; these moments deserve a little acknowledgment.

When you take the time to celebrate the small stuff, it boosts your confidence and encourages a positive and growth mindset. It’s a reminder that you’re doing the work, even when it doesn’t feel like it.

So, next time you reach a small milestone, give yourself a little high five—because those small wins are what make the big ones possible.

Go Easy on Yourself ????

Avoid toxic-positivity - We're not built and designed to be happy-go-lucky all the time. Instead, embrace authenticity. It's okay to have shut-off days. It’s okay to feel a little lost or low. It’s okay to have low battery days.

Life’s not meant to be all smooth sailing—it’s full of bumps and twists. Sometimes, we just need to let those emotions flow and give ourselves permission to feel them without judgment. But remember, those moments don’t define you. They're just part of the ride.

Embrace the downs as much as the ups, because they’re all teaching you something. Allow yourself to feel, to rest, but don’t forget to rise again.

Set Boundaries ??

Learning to set boundaries is one of the best ways to show yourself kindness. It’s all about knowing your limits and respecting them at any cost. Saying “no” isn’t easy, but it’s essential for protecting your energy and keeping your peace.

When you create space for yourself—whether it’s to rest, recharge, or just breathe—you’re making room to be the best version of yourself. Boundaries help you stay grounded and focused, so you can show up fully for the people and things that really matter.

It’s not selfish; it’s self-care!

I hope you can relate to my journey and the little ways I practice every day for a more fulfilling life! At the end of the day, self-love isn’t about a perfect destination; it’s about showing up for yourself—through the highs and the lows. It’s a daily practice into living a more fulfilling life.

So, be kind to yourself, give yourself the grace to grow, and remember that every small step counts!

Yalla,

Peace out! ???

Someone said to me recently “you get out what you put in” and reading your inspirational blog about your journey to self-love is proof of that. We can extend kindness to others only if we are kind to ourselves first. Which in today’s world isn’t always easy but oh so important and powerful.

I love this! Most especially: Finding the little things to appreciate. I think if we often get consumed by the hustle and bustle of our days and lives, and sometimes the negative stuff stands out, we tend to forget or ignore the things or people that are there to put a smile on our faces. Thank you for sharing this, Lara El Ghandour <3

I was planning on posting the below: Yesterday was World Kindness Day, yet here in Beirut, the sound of air strikes filled the city. Writing about kindness in such a setting felt painfully ironic. Kindness is harder to define nowadays, with so much of the world embracing a "dog-eat-dog" mentality. Too often, showing compassion is dismissed as a weakness, a vulnerability. Yet, kindness is the ultimate strength to act with empathy, even when doing so costs us something. Kindness isnt naivety; it's courage. The truth is, kindness doesn’t always look heroic. It’s uncomfortable, often inconvenient, and doesn’t always make things easier for us. But in a world like ours, it’s also a form of resistance against the pressures to “toughen up,” to turn a blind eye, to stay detached. Kindness is choosing not to let the world’s harshness strip away our ability to feel and connect. Kindness can be quiet & unseen. It’s found in small, simple gestures. It’s not about being perfect or saintly; it’s about showing up, day after day, for others and ourselves. And maybe, if these small acts do catch on, they can start to shift the way we treat each other. Perhaps, with everyday kindness, we can materialize the dream of changing the world.
