My Journey to Recovery: A Personal Story from The Sub Leader

My Journey to Recovery: A Personal Story from The Sub Leader

A New Year's Reflection

Happy New Year to all! As we embark on this fresh start, I want to shed light on my recent absence from the public eye and the temporary pause in my life's mission. Though immensely difficult, this decision stands as one of my most vital life choices. It was a step back to leap forward, not just for me, but for my family and the community I serve.

The Unseen Battle: A Year of Highs and Lows

Last year was a paradox of joy and challenges. Welcoming my second son into the world was a moment of pure joy. Professionally, I embarked on a new job and launched a business. Yet, amidst these milestones, I faced profound grief with the loss of my Nana, my guiding light, without a chance for a final goodbye. Each of these events, both positive and sorrowful, compounded the existing, undiagnosed problem within my body, a problem I chose to overlook until it could no longer be ignored.

November brought a moment of undeniable truth. My health, long ignored, reached a breaking point. I experienced a collapse, a terrifying episode that starkly revealed the extent of my neglect. The diagnosis was as bewildering as it was frightening: a muscular condition severely constricting my blood flow. This not only caused relentless physical pain but also clouded my mind in a foggy haze. I was perpetually tired, no matter how much I rested, and my moods swung unpredictably. This was more than a physical ailment; it was a mental and emotional storm, leaving me feeling helpless and isolated. Sharing this is not easy, but it's a step towards healing and understanding that vulnerability is not a weakness, but a brave admission of our human limits.

Embracing Vulnerability in Leadership

Embracing vulnerability as a leader is crucial. This experience has shown me that we are all on a personal and professional journey. It has reinforced why kindness in business is more important today than ever. In B2B relationships, kindness fosters trust and long-term partnerships, while in B2C, it builds brand loyalty and customer satisfaction. For employees, a culture of kindness improves morale, increases productivity, and creates an environment where people feel valued and supported. By being transparent about my struggles, I've encouraged open dialogue, built stronger bonds, and cultivated a supportive environment. This approach has led to increased team resilience, enhanced creativity, and a more engaged workforce, proving that vulnerability and kindness can be powerful leadership tools.

My journey has been significantly influenced by the guidance and wisdom of mentors like Ellis Garwood , a mindset coach and personal mentor who has been instrumental in my path to recovery. I want you to know that encouraging your peers and team to seek out such vital resources of information and support is paramount. It fosters a culture where seeking help is viewed as a strength, not a weakness. By advocating for health and wellness, we enhance our lives and create an environment where our teams can thrive personally and professionally.

Moving Forward: The Sub Leader's Commitment

As I continue on this path, my commitment is to lead with empathy, strength, and understanding. The lessons I've learned extend beyond personal gains; they are insights I intend to share with my community. My focus now is not just on rebuilding but on fostering a culture where well-being is paramount, and vulnerability is seen as a strength.

The Future: Strength in Kindness

As The Sub Leader, my mission goes beyond business success. It's about building a legacy of kindness, resilience, and health. A legacy that my family, and those I lead, can embrace and carry forward. This journey has been a testament to the power of pausing, reflecting, and realigning with our core values. It's a reminder that our greatest strength often emerges through our most challenging times.

A Message of Hope and Resilience

Remember to anyone facing similar struggles that it's okay to pause and seek help. Embrace your vulnerability as a step towards strength. We are all human, and it's our shared experiences that connect us. Let's continue to support each other, building a community where openness, wellness, and kindness are at the forefront.
