?The rules and steps will be same for achieving any of the certification or competitive exam only the study material, mock test and strategy to crack will vary. You may refer to my last article Steps Toward Apex ?, my PMP Lesson Learned written for PMP Aspirants for detail step. I utilized my PMP Lesson Learned for RMP also. Let me explain how I did this.

Steps are as follows:?

  1. ?Analyze Yourself??
  2. Freeze-Resources
  3. Make-Own Study Strategy
  4. Fix -Dream Day date
  5. Practice Mock Test
  6. Be calm on “The Dream Day

?1.????Analyze Yourself:

I knew that

  • I'm a Visual Learner and I can learn easily when I Read books/ Write notes/ important points.
  • I can spare maximum 1.5 hour for study in working day including study in lunch time and commuting time.

  1. Weekend: Reading time: Spent quality time to understand the concept.
  2. Weekdays: Mock test time.

  • I’m a late-night learner but need to be an early morning person as situation demands. For this I took interesting assignment which will keep me active and make my brain engage like attempting short quiz, reviewing answer of last test.
  • RMP Certification is important for me because this will enhance my Risk Management Knowledge which will help me for better execution of Project as well as help me for implementation of best practices of Risk Management across the organization.

I always looking for ways and means to get chance to find time to RMP related tasks Now it’s your turn to analyze yourself!

?2.????Freeze-Resources:

?I used the following resources

Book:

  1. The Standard for Risk Management in Portfolios, Programs, and Projects (2019) Project Management Institute
  2. ?A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK? Guide), Seventh edition Project Management Institute

Mock Test

  1. Edu HubSpot
  2. Mock test in Udemy by Alaa Sultan

?Videos & POD Cast:

I didn't refer any videos and podcast as I'm a person who can learn easily by visualizing, reading books, writing notes. You can refer videos and podcast from quality resources. Afterall every person's study method is unique.

3.????Make your Own Study Strategy.

a.????My 5 Step Study Strategy:

  1. ?Study PMBOK6
  2. ?Study 3P Book (The Standard for Risk Management in Portfolios, Programs, and Projects (2019))
  3. ?Attempt Mock Test without time limit followed by time limit (Time management is also important).

  • Review Mock test to make your concept stronger.
  • Read the explanation given by source
  • Read the reference page No. of Book

4. Revise Concept and refer following sections of 3P Book.

  • Table 7-1. Areas of the Project Management Process Groups & Knowledge Areas Typically Covered by the Risk Management Practices
  • Appendix-X6,
  • Table X6-1, Matrix of Risk Management Techniques Mapped to Risk Management Life Cycle Stages,
  • Glossary.

?4.????Fix -Dream Day date:

When you fix the date, that makes you to take study seriously and makes you more sincere.

I booked the exam date 1.5 month back considering the following:

  • Organization holidays,
  • Availability of seat in center
  • Kids School holidays,
  • Workload
  • Festive season (Being a religious person, had to consider the festivals coming and my involvement in that like Navaratri/Dusshera, one of the biggest festivals for Hindus in India)
  • Slot where you will be more active (Morning, Afternoon, Evening). I selected 10 am slot rather than 8 am. Remember, your brain needs to be super active, focused and be in present state during the exam time.?

?5.????Practice Mock Test:?

I practiced more than 1500 questions from various sources. But unique gap analysis technique helped me.

GAP ANALYSIS TECHNIQUE

You should note down the following types of question No. while attempting the Mock test for gap analysis.?

No alt text provided for this image

There may be similar type of questions from multiple sources and answer differs then you should refer to the explanation with logical reasoning and reference page No. of book. I applied this strategy to fill the gap during my PMP as well as RMP certification. Trust me, this will work for you as well.

6.????Be calm on “The Dream Day:

Tips for the Day

  • Be calm
  • Have light energetic food
  • Reach Center before time
  • Don’t think about the result during exam. Just do your best
  • Attend all the questions. There is no negative marking.

?It doesn’t matter how much you studied earlier, how much you are prepared. It only matters how you perform during the exam. So be calm and go for it

YOU CAN DO IT!!

It doesn’t matter how much you studied earlier, how much you are prepared. It only matters how you perform during the exam. So be calm and go for it!

YOU CAN DO IT!
