My Journey - Part II
Introduction
Last edition I shared with you my professional journey, starting from my first job as Mate on oil field supply vessels to my most recent role in talent acquisition. This week I will cover what I have done in the last 9-months, ending with an exciting update!
UX/UI Bootcamp
As I wrapped up my time in talent acquisition, I decided to pick up where I had left off during Covid, which was gearing up to get back into IT in some fashion. Having heard so much about the growing and always-in-demand field of UX/UI, I decided to apply to UX/UI Bootcamp at General Assembly. I was accepted into the program and began a few weeks later. It was an amazing experience, and I met some wonderful people and made a few new friends along the way!
Although I enjoyed learning about UX, it wasn't long before I felt the pull back towards project management and Agile practices. I found myself as the project manager for all my group projects, and we often followed Agile practices during our project design sprints. During this time, there was also a wave of tech layoffs sweeping the country, which was concerning to say the least, and contributed to my decision to not pursue UX/UI work when I graduated from the program.

Another Look at Agile!
Having decided to focus my job search more in the Agile and project management space, I began networking and reconnecting with members of the Agile community whom I had been speaking with back in late 2019 before Covid basically shut us down in early 2020. I joined several Agile networking communities and began attending meet ups, both online and in person. In addition, I decided to launch this newsletter in the Spring. I quickly found that I loved writing and continue to enjoy publishing content!
Then, a few months into publishing and networking, I met a Scrum Master who had been following this newsletter and reached out here on LinkedIn to connect. We chatted for a few days and eventually met up for coffee. It was clear that we had a lot in common, and those conversations eventually led to me being introduced to a recruiter at his company. Things went really well, and I happy to report that I am now in the second week of my new role as a Scrum Master and love what I am doing!
What's Next?
Summer break! Now that we are all caught up, this is a great place to pause for the remainder of the summer and reflect on the first half of the year. Not to worry, I'll be back in September and ready to jump into the next series of articles. See you in the Fall!
