My Journey as a Mental Alchemist: Part 1
There is a lot to be said for theory and even more for practice. Let me start by sharing that I coined myself the "mental alchemist." For almost three years, I ran away from this title because I knew the universal training that would come with it.
Before diving into everything I want to discuss, I realize this post must be broken into several parts because there is so much to share. So, let’s begin with the basics.
What do you think of when you hear "mental alchemist"? Do you even know what alchemy is?
In terms of mental, this refers to anything related to the mind, including order and disorder. This includes one’s emotional and social state, understanding how one gains, processes, and utilizes knowledge, and the effects on one’s thoughts, experiences, and senses (awareness, perception, and intuition). As I discuss more about mental practices, I will be talking about both the mind and the brain and their effects on one’s behavior.
An alchemist is someone who practices alchemy or transformation. In science, it’s about transforming basic metals into gold. In religion, it’s about freeing oneself from fears and limited beliefs, embracing the self, and bringing about inner change and liberation.
For me, being a mental alchemist means that I transform and liberate the mind. I identify maladaptive behaviors and practices, bringing awareness to one’s perceptions, thoughts, and experiences, and making sense of and supporting one’s intuition.
My belief system is set up to think that I must endure and overcome before I can speak and teach. This is because I want to truly know what I know. This is where theory becomes practice. This is also where information becomes knowledge, and knowledge becomes wisdom.
Over the next few posts, I will try my best to share how you can change your thinking, beliefs, and actions to bring clarity and assist in redirecting your state of being to one that is more conducive to the life you truly desire to live. I hope that by providing examples from my life, you can make choices that best support your journey.
