My journey to embracing resilience and growth

Reflecting on a Life-Changing Decision
This month marks one year since I decided to eliminate alcohol from my life. For three years prior, I attempted dry February but always returned to the 'therapy' that suppressed my grief. Now, one year later, it's clear that alcohol was one of the biggest things standing in the way of realizing my pure potential.
The Darkest Years
The first few years following my sister’s death, 6 years ago, were some of the darkest I’ve ever faced. My mental health tanked, and I spent so much time just trying to survive. I leaned on alcohol to cope and escape overwhelming feelings of grief and loss. But alcohol only kept me stuck in a cycle of burnout and negativity.
Breaking Free
A year ago, I knew I needed to break free—for myself, my family, and my career. Since then, I've seen dramatic changes not just in my physical health but in my entire approach to life. I'm more mindful with my family and more focused and fulfilled in my work.
Challenges and Growth
It hasn't been easy—far from it. There have been hard days, moments of doubt, and seemingly insurmountable challenges. But I've learned to navigate them with greater resilience, clarity, and self-awareness. I'm a better mom, wife, and leader because of this decision, though I still have lots to learn and growth to make. Professionally, I've pushed past limitations, taken on new challenges, and embraced opportunities with a renewed sense of purpose.
No Days Off: The Power of Consistency
A big part of my transformation has been adopting a "no days off" mindset—in life and fitness. Weightlifting and endurance training have been crucial to my journey. These activities taught me that growth is to be consistent, and progress doesn’t happen overnight. Each day is an opportunity to push harder, show up, and build both physical and mental strength.
Living Fully Present
Letting go of alcohol allowed me to truly understand what living means—being fully present, embracing the good AND the bad, knowing that every challenge is an opportunity for growth. I’m able to simply ‘think better’ and with more clarity than ever before.
Gratitude and Moving Forward
As I reflect on this past year, I'm filled with gratitude for the strength I've discovered within myself. My journey is far from over, but I'm excited about where it's taking me—and I know that resilience and potential go hand in hand. I have a better understanding of who my true self is, more self-awareness in my areas of growth and dedication, and a clear roadmap to get there.
A Message to Those Struggling
To anyone struggling: it’s okay to not be okay. It’s okay to need help. And it’s never too late to start fresh. You’ve got this. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you need an ear. Joy, even amidst loss, grief, chaos, ambiguity is very possible.

2 天前Here you go again, sharing your journey to inspire and uplift others! Your courage never ceases to amaze me. I reached six months of sobriety last year but stumbled over the holidays. Thankfully, I'm back on track and committed to sober living. And I have to say, I completely agree with your friend David—those drinks never taste as good as we remember! ??
