My Journey to Diabetes Management: From Pre-diabetes to Diabetes to a Healthier Me

Nine years ago, my life took an unexpected turn during fertility treatments when my blood sugar levels shot up, placing me in the pre-diabetic range. Little did I know that this would be the start of a long and challenging journey toward diabetes management.

For nearly a decade, I battled the looming threat of diabetes through rigorous diet control and regular brisk walking. It was a painful journey as I had to give up many of the things I enjoyed. During my nine-year struggle to manage my diabetes, I tried almost everything that anyone recommended. From Okra (Bhindi) water, Methi (Fenugreek) seeds, cinnamon powder, naturopathy treatments for several weeks, to numerous vegetable juices, Bitter Gourd (Karela), Neem, and what not. Unfortunately, nothing seemed to work for me beyond a point. Instead, it only added to my frustration. However, I was determined to stay in control of my health.

My battle took a significant turn four months ago when I was diagnosed with diabetes, with an HbA1c reading of 6.8. Throughout those nine years, doctors had urged me to start medication, but I resisted the idea.

Frustratingly, my doctors didn't delve into the root cause of my condition, whether it was insulin resistance or a pancreatic issue.

I made a conscious decision not to start medication because I believed that these drugs only managed blood sugar levels temporarily. They didn't address the root cause, and the dosages often had to be increased, eventually leading to insulin dependency. This story may resonate with many who have faced similar pressures.

Determined to find a sustainable solution, I decided to enlist the help of a personal fitness trainer who proved to be exceptional. His expertise in understanding the body, muscles, diet, and proportions was remarkable. What's more, his methods were so effective that I didn't experience any body pain or muscle pull, even after intense workouts at the gym. Typically, you'd expect to struggle with those issues for the first few weeks, but under his guidance, it was a smooth and pain-free journey.

Within just three months of starting the program, I achieved remarkable results. I shed 6 kilograms, lost 3 inches across my body, and, most importantly, saw my HbA1c drop from 6.8 to 6.3. My fasting blood sugar levels went down from 166 to 104, BMI is in the right range, and my energy levels surged. For one who used to fit in Size XL or L clothes, I now fit into Size M / S. And all of this, in just 3 months! The journey is still On.

The experience also led to profound realizations. I recognized the myths I had carried for nine years about my eating habits and learned what I needed to eat to stay healthy. Food is no longer a source of entertainment but a source of nourishment.

I'm immensely grateful to my incredible trainer Venkat Madamala , whose guidance has been life-changing. It's no surprise that he is a celebrity in his field. He trains prominent figures in the Telugu film industry and even international clients who take online training from him. Who thought on the journey to diabetes remission, I would be working out alongside celebrities? It’s indeed fun.

My journey from pre-diabetes to diabetes to diabetes management has been transformative. I hope my story inspires and helps others facing similar challenges. Remember, with the right guidance and determination, we can overcome even the most daunting health obstacles.

I still remember the Saturday evening that I went to meet him. A person of very few words that he is, his only response to every question that I asked was "Dont worry, I will take care of your diabetes. I know how to do it and I have done it so many times". I really thank my stars that I could find him for managing my diabetes. And it's not just my diabetes that I am managing, it's the overall health.
