My Journey as a Company Secretary: A Leap of Faith

My Journey as a Company Secretary: A Leap of Faith

Looking back, it’s hard to believe how it all began. On October 31, 2012, I earned my Company Secretary degree, and it wasn’t part of some grand plan—it was more of an "as fate would have it" story.

It all started with my mother pushing me toward the CS course. I had no idea what the course entailed, but she saw something in me that I hadn't recognized yet. I took the plunge and, in just 3.5 years, I completed the course—juggling regular college, a 15-month internship (earning a modest 2,500/- stipend), and preparing for CS exams. At 21, I had a degree in hand, and people began to call me a "young achiever." While it seemed like a fast-track success, it came with its own set of challenges.

From early on, I had this innate drive to stay ahead—always working hard, but also working smart. Over the years, I moved through different organizations, learning and growing with each role.

The real twist came when I took a leap of faith and switched my career from Secretarial work to Compliance. At the time, I didn’t fully understand what the future held for me. It was a daunting change, yet it set me on a path that has shaped my entire career. Today, I’m proud to say I work in a CxO capacity, serve as a senior management team member, and have been part of multiple panels—achievements I credit to that bold leap I took years ago.

Resilience in the Face of Challenges

Although many see my journey as one of early success, it wasn’t without its struggles. Balancing full-time studies with the demands of an internship and professional exams wasn’t easy. There were moments when the workload felt overwhelming, and the fear of failure loomed large. Yet, it was in those moments of doubt that I learned the true meaning of resilience. Every challenge became a stepping stone, teaching me that setbacks are often just setups for greater opportunities.

The Power of Mentorship

I owe much of my career trajectory to the guidance I received early on. My mother’s encouragement to pursue the CS course was pivotal, and over time, I’ve realized how crucial it is to have mentors who believe in you, even when you don’t fully believe in yourself. Throughout my journey, I’ve encountered mentors and leaders who have shared their wisdom, challenged me, and pushed me to grow. Their influence reminds me that mentorship is a powerful tool, especially for young professionals who may not yet see their full potential.

Empowering Women to Take That Leap

As I reflect on my journey, I can’t help but think of the role women play in today’s corporate world. I know how important it is to push boundaries, take risks, and trust in your potential—even when the path seems uncertain. Women empowerment isn’t just about breaking barriers externally, but also breaking the barriers we impose on ourselves.

Whether it’s pursuing a field you never thought of, switching careers, or leading teams—sometimes, all it takes is a leap of faith. Surround yourself with those who believe in your capabilities, and embrace the challenges as part of your growth.

Final Thoughts: A Call to Action

To anyone reading this who’s on a similar journey, my message is simple: trust the process. The road may not always be clear, and there will be setbacks along the way, but resilience, patience, and experience will guide you through. Don’t be afraid to take that leap, even if you don’t know what the future holds. Keep your head high, your voice low, and always believe that the sky’s the limit.
