My Journey as a "Coach"

 My metaphor – my singing bowl – my gong

When I decided to go for a professional “coaching” certification course, I didn’t realize that each coach must have a metaphor which he or she connects or resonates with. Thinking that it is a simple process to identify your own metaphor but believe you me it was not so simple. 

Purpose of having your own metaphor in front of you while you are coaching others brings back your attention to the same for what it signifies. In my case, I have decided that I will be like a singing bowl or a gong as shown in the picture. This bowl signifies that anyone in whatever life condition they are, if they strike this with wooden “stick” it produces a very calming, meditative sound which helps opening the “chakras” and provides healing.

This bowl will be there for users to freely use and strike the sound, the sound they like unlike the way other instruments produce a well-established sound. Here the notes of sound will be matching with the vibrations of its striker. There are several benefits of using this metaphor for coaching at it will not only remind me to be like it but will bring such great benefits to the coachees to be coached in this way:

1. Reduces stress and anxiety significantly.

2. Increases mental and emotional clarity.

3. Promotes stillness, happiness and well-being.

4. A general sense of uplifting, inspirational, and positive energy.

5. Improvements in mental health.

6. Calms and focuses the mind

7. Eases hypertension.

 The benefits of coaching, of course, go way beyond the obvious. Coachees will have the capacity to self-manage their well-being by no longer reliant on prescribed ways to ease their stress and tension. Each coaching session should instill the above-mentioned benefits to the coachee. This is the role I would like to play by being the singing bowl – the gong to my coachees.
