Phuc's Journey with Cloud Elemental

In this article, Phuc Tran , one of our Consultants & DevOps Engineers shares his passion for the field, detailing his journey into the DevOps field and how Cloud Elemental has supported his growth. From hands-on projects like RDS Automation to mentoring new graduates, he reflects on Cloud Elemental's collaborative culture and how it’s shaped both his technical and consultative skills.

What inspired you to pursue a career in DevOps?

With my background in web development, I find DevOps really fascinating because I can see how the code comes to life in different layers. The 'Ops' in DevOps, which focuses on operations, fascinates me - to see all the staggering infrastructure, services, and spaghetti code serving one purpose: to make our lives easier. It's an incredible space where development meets operations, and I love being at the centre of it.

How does Cloud Elemental support your growth as a DevOps engineer/consultant?

Cloud Elemental has supported me greatly to hone my growth as both a DevOps Engineer and a Consultant. Without the company’s guidance and support, I wouldn’t have been able to sharpen my skills - both technical and consultative - to the level they are today. These skills also help me pass more Cloud Certificates than I could have ever imagined.

What makes me proud to work at Cloud Elemental is watching the company grow from its early stages with all the awesome products that we are managing to carry out, and I’m really looking forward to our future.

What makes working at Cloud Elemental unique compared to other places you've worked?

My experience at Cloud Elemental has been very memorable. Our tasks are straightforward and practical, so I am always learning something and feel as though I'm contributing to something worthwhile. On top of this, we all trust each other as colleagues, which makes collaborating so much easier.

Our internal communications are casual and fun, making it easy to collaborate with the entire team. Whilst we take our work seriously, some of my most memorable work moments are when the team shares jokes and memes - I've been rolling-on-floor-laughing at times!

Can you share a project you worked on that you're proud of?

One of the projects I want to proudly mention is RDS Automation. I had the chance to build it from the early development stages, and it is now currently serving our client’s business. What makes it special is the ability to reduce unnecessary access to the database and automate lots of database administrator’s work, which strengthens security and massively reduces manual workload.

How have you mentored the Graduates, and did you enjoy it?

Since guiding our new starters, I have realised that collaborating with these bright young minds has made our day-to-day work much easier. Whilst I have been sharing my knowledge with our Elemental Academy grads, I have learned plenty from them as well. With each day I help them out, I'm improving my mentoring skills and I'm glad to have the chance to learn mentorship in a hands-on way. I really enjoy every chance I get to knowledge-share with them, as it's fulfilling to know that I can help my mentees improve, even if just a little bit.
