My Journey with ChatGPT and AI: Simplifying the Future

Four years ago, I stumbled upon a revelation in the form of Grammarly, a tool that promised to revolutionise my writing. Little did I know, the real storm was yet to come with the advent of large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT. My journey with ChatGPT over the past six months has been nothing short of a deep dive into the future of daily digital interactions.

Here, I share a glimpse into how ChatGPT has improved productivity tasks alongside the essential learnings.

How ChatGPT Makes Life Easier:

Imagine having a helper who can:

·????? Write emails that sound professional.

·????? Check your writing to make sure it looks professional and polished

·????? Help you apply for jobs by making your CV and applications look great.

·????? Come up with ideas for saving money or planning your finances. You can use this as a ready reference for your tax savings and finances.

·????? Suggest cool names for your new business or project.

·????? Create pictures or designs for your ads.

·????? Help you plan your next trip by suggesting an itinerary.

·????? Answer questions from the specific documents.

It's like having a super-smart friend who can help you with almost anything.

Key Learnings so far:

The Expertise Imperative: While ChatGPT often provides 80% accurate responses, it's crucial to approach it with a level of subject matter expertise. This expertise ensures one can navigate the "last mile" of solution refinement, underscoring the importance of human oversight in the AI-assisted process. It reminded me of a Google map, which occasionally guides me to take a right turn when I am in the middle of a bridge.

?

The Quality of Queries: The adage "Garbage in, Garbage out" holds particularly true with AI interactions. The effectiveness of ChatGPT's responses significantly depends on the precision of the questions asked. Thus, mastering the art of inquiry becomes as critical as understanding and correcting the answers based on your expertise.

?

Consistency Challenges: ChatGPT's dynamic nature means that identical queries may yield varying responses at different times. This unpredictability emphasises the need for users to be flexible, adaptable, and patient with the tool.

?

The Human Dimension: Amidst the exponential increase in information processing afforded by ChatGPT, a new kind of anxiety emerges—the quest for what's next. The digital age, characterised by an overload of often redundant and fake information, demands a balanced approach to consumption and reflection. Also, it is likely to have biases as it has taken in a lot of information, and it isn’t easy to know what data has been fed.

Final Thoughts:

Despite these challenges, ChatGPT and similar tools are improving our lives. They make us more efficient and allow us to do things we couldn’t before.

Even though some jobs might change because of these technologies, new ones will be created, and we'll find new ways to work and create.

In my personal experience, I've noticed a significant improvement in my productivity, multiplying several-fold, and in certain instances, I've achieved what seemed nearly impossible in the past.

However, on the flip side, I often feel overwhelmed. It resonates with the below from the book Dilbert's Future:

“In the future, you will have virtually unlimited personal power, and the technology of the day will make it possible to accomplish the things you need to do in seconds. The only downside is that you will have to make thousands of decisions daily to choose which of the millions of things you could do. Most of them will be pointless.”

As the saying goes, the survival of the fittest or, in other words, adaptation, is key to survival. The journey is just starting, and there's much more to discover.
