My Journey to Awards Show

The Los Angeles Business Journal was shown in its brightest colors as it hosted the Annual Nonprofit Corporate Citizenship 2023 Awards. Huge kudos and congratulations to Josh Schimmels! I believe you found your true calling in your work as Publisher and Chief Executive. You opened the meeting as a Director, warming up the audience before the Orchestra began their concert. In the audience, there were representatives from nearly every discipline of need: homelessness, housing, meal services, children, the elderly, LBGTQ+, environmental needs, parks, water, eye care, athletic care, women owned businesses, pet services, mentorship, justice, Asian America Advancing Justice, communication, banks, film, STEM, moving, and so much more.
The meeting began with a panel, including Megan Barror, MA Exec. Director from the Alzheimer’s Institute; Fatima Djelmane Rodriguez, Chief Exec. Officer of that organization; Carolyn Ramsay, Exec. Director, Ronald McDonald House; Martine Singer, President, CEO, Children’s Institute; and Franco Vega, Founder & CEO, Rightway Foundation, which helps mitigate the trauma of homelessness and transition. Each was asked how they discovered their passion for their work and what qualities were most desired in their new hires? One important goal was helping others in problems they faced in their own lives.
Yesterday’s celebration recognized the highest caliber of nonprofits. Everyone was recognized for their individual contribution to their organization, working as part of a board or serving as a volunteer. Next individuals were acknowledged for various roles from best volunteer individual to the best leader, the best team player, and the most innovative. Organizations ranged from small to large and then to teams.
It was wonderful sitting back and reflecting on the experience of being seated in a room of champions. One person stated it was each of us who were up for our own Academy Award. This was such a bright contrast to pushing, shoving, competing, and comparing oneself as we do in our everyday existence. It was a blessed honor to be there and recognized for my services as the “Rosalyn Kahn Show: Living Your Best Life,” a show that’s premise is overcoming obstacles. My show has been around for 16 months. It began with KXLA/Chow Entertainment and shortly thereafter was carried in Las Vegas at KGNG daily during primetime. It can be seen around the world on ROKU TV and Amazon Fire. Previous guests range from diplomats of Egypt to presidential candidates to the Consul Generals of Sri Lanka and the Philippines. I have also interviewed entertainers, children entertainers, and so many more.

A huge note of congratulation to the Los Angeles Business Journal from the top to the bottom: the host, the servers, those at the check-in desk, the bar, and the photographer for a well-executed event. It was indeed an honor to participate in the celebration of nonprofit and corporate citizenship. Stay tuned for the next group of awardees!?
