My Introduction to Pink Martini (the band)

Inspiration can come from anywhere.

I was recently inspired by Ari Shapiro’s memoir “The Best Strangers in the World.”

Mr. Shapiro is a radio journalist with NPR and singer with Pink Martini.

Before I picked up Mr. Shapiro’s memoir, I had not heard of Pink Martini before.

Pink Martini is an American band that has been around since 1994.

One of the songs that Pink Martini covers is “Brasil .”

I love Brasil, so when I read that, I quickly headed over to YouTube and did a search of Pink Martini + Brasil.

Among the search results, I learned that Pink Martini will be coming to Toronto in November 2023.

Did I want to see Pink Martini when they come to Toronto?

Before making a decision, I listened to some other Pink Martini songs. Some favourites include: Anna , ?Dónde estás, Yolanda? Hang On Little Tomato , Splendour in the Grass and Let’s Be Friends . I spent an entire afternoon listening to 18 Pink Martini songs, liked what I heard and bought a ticket to go see Pink Martini in November!

My interest in listening to music has been in steep decline (i.e., non-existent) for quite a while. I turn on the radio every day and listen to 680, which is an all-news radio station in Toronto. ?

Mr. Shapiro revitalized my interest in music. I got pumped up and started dancing to Brasil in my home. I was inspired to check out other Pink Martini songs. told four friends about this band, and now I’m telling you about Pink Martini. ?

Have you heard of Pink Martini? Are you a fan? Have you read Ari Shapiro’s memoir “The Best Strangers in the World”? What do you think of this memoir???

I am a retired HR practitioner. I’ve entered a new phase in my life after the death of my parents. I realize that life is short and to make the most of each day. I am grateful. I think about my values + purpose all the time. I am a work in progress.

Jamie - always love new music. Will need to check them out but haven't heard of them before your post.

Hi Jamie! Good to hear that you are still out there exploring new interests and finding/living your life after the loss of your parents. I loved this quick read! I have never heard of Pink Martini and will have to check them out along with Ari Shapiro's book. I am rarely on social media of any kind these days. Much like you with listening to music, it just does not appeal to me all that much of late, so I greatly appreciate you inviting me back to read your blog! Keep it up! ??

Yes, I have heard about Pink Martini. For me, they're just ok. Check out their song Je ne veux pas travailler.
